Very nice experience. Nice organization with the bus carrying you from the end point to the start after the walk so that you don't have to walk twice the same trail. The Inferno crater is amazing.

Amazing walk. I felt as if I was moved to another planet from some Si-Fi movie. Definitely recommend. Wear comfy shoes as there's a lot of walking.

Beautiful views, something special awaits around every corner. Boat ride not included in price and wasn't advised at base. The hiking part is worth the effort if u can handle lots of uphill steps. 3 days later my legs are still a bit tender. Highly recommend

Beautiful place, one of the most pleasant bushwalking experiences. I'm personally not a huge fan of hiking, but I really enjoyed the volcanic valley. The walking track isn't physically demanding and there are many natural wonders to look at. The prices for entry may be a bit steep, but it's worth it.

Great location, fascinating and fairly easy main walk. There is a scenic walk off the main route, but for the effort it takes you don't gain much in views. I did not take part in the boat tour, so my review excludes that. Check bookme.co.nz before booking any tourist attraction in the Bay of Plenty region, you can get up to 50% off most of the attractions.

Trully beautiful walk! Very well organized with a system of buses that allows you not to walk the same path twice. The main walk takes about to two hours and if you want to to the hiking parts, plan about 4 hours. Very quiet and peaceful in winter.

A fantastic walk between a multitude of different geothermal features. We got there a little late in the day and so had to keep moving to ensure we reached the end of the trail before the last bus left. If you we went again we would go earlier in the day and spend more time enjoying the sights.

Waimangu is an amazing place to visit. Family and I have been twice now. First time we walked the Mount Hazard way, 2nd time we were advised go take the normal track due to the weather. Either track is amazing & you will experience a different vistas with each walk. Waimangu is affordable and great for a family outing. Wear suitable walking shoes, take a picnic & your camera. You can either walk down the lake & back or walk down & bus back (bus ride is included in the entry fee).

The Waimangu Volcanic Valley may be my favourite thing I did in New Zealand. Absolutely stunning variety of scenery, with geothermal phenomena around every corner. It really makes you stop and appreciate the baffling enormity of nature.
We arrived early and had the place practically to ourselves for most of the day. I highly recommend making a day of your visit and doing the walk to the lake and back. It's so beautiful.
We didn't end up using the buses, but we thought it was a great touch. It was really nice to know that if we ever got tired, we could just hop on a bus and get back to the entrance.

An easy (mostly downhill) hike to see some really cool volcanic lakes. The stair climb up to the small, lower lake is definitely worth it. (Aaaamazing) Several spots to ride the bus back up to the visitor center.

A contrasting place of natures drama and changing moods, the boat ride at the end is full of New Zealand’s story. This is an organised venue for visitors – a favourite.

This place shows how amazing our volcanic past has been with steam vents coming from all over with hot running streams, if you haven't seen thermal activity before its well worth a look, also the boat ride around the lake is worth a look.
