unfortunately not on pay with wagamama in the uk, and there are also sooo many good asian restaurants in auckland this sadly did't deliver on the flavours.
Food was okay not really authentic Japanese taste/flavor. Atmosphere was okay. Staff not attentive. We requested bottle water for our table and did not get it until half way through dinner when we had to wave down the waiter to ask again. Food and drink was bit pricey even though descent size.
The food had great great flavour but gosh the servings are miniscule. Don't like the way the tables and benches are set up because I don't like sharing a table with complete strangers.
The restaurant was clean, and the staff were friendly and patient. We had to wait a while for food the night we were there, although to be fair, they were quite busy. The only real gripe was the food. Much like other reviewers, I found it lacking in flavour. I had the Pad Thai, and it was quite spicy/hot while being essentially tasteless. Compared to what I get regularly in a Thai restaurant, it was a little disappointing. I realise this is a fusion restaurant; it's just a little hard to figure what they fused it with.
Does wagamama mean the mother of the missing flavours? Yeah I bet it is. A rubber band will have more flavour than the food they serve.
The food itself was pretty good. I got the rice bowl with tofu. Service is weak though. It was 3 of us and everyone got served at different times. It's also very loud in there. There's not much that I would have reason to come back for.
I don't understand why people choose Wagamama when there are so many great, good and even mediocre Japanese and other Asian restaurants nearby (as there certainly are in Newmarket). I've been to 4 Wagamamas in 3 cities and had similar experiences each time. Today's business lunch meeting I ordered the entree of stirfry veggies ($7), a side of rice ($3) and another side of kimchi ($3). The vegetable entree: literally 3 leaves of baby bok choy and 3 small broccoli stems. They were delicious - I just expected more than would fit in the palm of one hand. The rice: amount was as expected, the crunchiness was not. If I hadn't been so hungry I would have left it. When a place calling itself Asian fusion cooks bad rice, you've got to wonder. The kimchi: tasty, served in the smallest of dipping bowls. I exaggerate only slightly when I say I've had more wasabi put on a plate next to my sushi than there was kimchi here. I would have burst out laughing in disbelief when they put the plates in front of me except I was with other people and they had chosen the location.
Oh, and the Coke Zero that one other person and I ordered wasn't anything like Coke Zero (the other guy commented first). At best it was Diet Coke from the keg where the ratio of syrup to fizzy water was set wrong. Both Diet Coke and Coke Zero were listed on the menu, so it wasn't that they just used Coke Zero as a shorthand for sugar-free Coke.
The staff are friendly, service was pretty fast, and the place looks clean.
All in all, the flavours were fine, the rice was just edible, and the portion sizes mostly absurd. Why does this chain still exist????
so amazing!! awesome staff, awesome food. we come in every week and the staff really treat us like family, they're amazing!
Me and my family got wagamama Newmarket tonight- The Teryaki Chichen donburi was $20- We were expecting a large meal. All we got was a few small boxes of either overcooked or undercooked chicken and rice. Plus- one of them was full of long-grain rice instead of short grain.
The ramen is ok and the service wasn't too good. Staff were friendly and helpful with the menu
It's OK, at the end of the day is a chain and the food is not bad, there's just many other better options around
