The Prawn Laksa was a disappointment. It was really bland and didn't taste like laksa at all. Perhaps other food would be a lot nicer. Otherwise the atmosphere is good.

Best chai late, coffee kinda basic though. Would have liked to see a little more variety like matcha late, malted barley coffee etc but that’s just me. Snacks are mediocre

The food was bland. I've never tried salmon that had no taste whatsoever before. Maybe we just got unlucky. Would've been a nice place otherwise

We started going to The Village Cafe because a number of cafés in the Wairarapa are closed on Mondays and TVC is open 7 days. At first I wasn't that impressed, its large and lacks 'cosyness' BUT recently the food has really improved! I have to resist ordering the same things each time and with the extensive menu and daily specials, there's always something new to try.
The wine offerings are good and there's a great selection of fresh cakes, cookies and scones. Try the lamb's fry with black pudding and mash or the corned beef hash. If the specials board has the spaghetti and meatballs on it, give it a try!
Not a fan of the counter ordering, it can end up being a bit of a bottle neck and congestedbut truly, the food makes up for it.response / report this review -

Not a very wide range of food and had a long wait time but the wines and beer are quite good.

Bad set up for ordering and servers seemed frantic. Table service would work better as servers would known where to drop food rather than traipsing around the three large areas.
