  Probably one of the best meals I have EVER eaten. The French cafe gets 10/10 for every single little detail.
  
  We did the 7 course degustation and every single dish from the amuse-Bouche and bread (delicious and gluten free) with smoked butter was exquisite. The standout courses were the whitebait sandwich and quail dish. The chocolate dessert was to die for.
  
  All the matched wines were of a very high standard and went perfectly with the dishes. We will definitely be trying to find them again.
  
  The staff were very attentive and knowledge about all the food and wine. My needs as a coeliac were well attended to and all dishes were adjusted to be gluten free without the slightest compromise on flavour or texture.
  
  I cannot recommend the French cafe more highly and would love to visit again next time I'm in Auckland.

  Simply the best of the best!
  Other restaurants will grab attention each year as they capitalise on ever changing trends but this restaurant remains both consistently current and simultaneously timeless - cuisine and metro wouldn't sell as many copies if this place won every year but the fact they are up there every year speak volumes
  
  There's a acknowledgment that a great chef has the confidence to show case his ingredients with minimal intervention and whilst Simon Wright uses a range of techniques it never feels forced and his food tastes so pure and unprocessed it's sublime
  
  As I grow older I'm getting bored with 4 hour meals with starched white linen Etc but the FC is so special I can't resist

  My husband organised a surprise dinner at the French Cafe for our 6 month anniversary. The experience was flawless - fantastic service, beautiful wine match and every meal on the tasting menu was superb. I have specific dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten free) which meant many of the usual vegetarian meals on the tasting menu were not suitable but the chef created amazing substitutes each one better than the last. The wine match was the best I've experienced, complementing each meal beautifully. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, very attentive and just the right mix of professionalism and personality, we enjoyed every minute of it and left feeling we had been on a real culinary journey. Be prepared for a long evening , relax and enjoy it- we were there 5 hours! Thanks for an amazing evening French Cafe :-)

  Hard to review without being critical as you pay for the very best. A bit more creativity as I have felt they have repeated a few elements recently. Ie the egg and the broth.must be a part of their degustation menus at least 3 out of 5 seasonal menus now.

  From the outside, the understated exterior disguises the fact that The French Cafe is one of Auckland's premium dining spots. The food is first class and served handsomely in appetite appeasing portions. The wine list is excellent and if you need advice, you'll get the real thing. Pricing is reasonable. They've cracked that sweet spot of ambiance, overall experience, and value, that can only come from people who really do know the hospitality game.

  We had a birthday party their on Saturday night in their private room. What an amazing venue. Perfect food. Beautiful and talented service. We really couldn't fault it! Brave
