This is a beautiful hotel. Love all the woodwork and decorations. It takes you back in time. Love it. The owner came and said hello. The staff were very helpful. We had them book a wine tour last minute which was awesome! Love this hotel. The rooms are very comfortable.

Impressive decoration in the room we stayed in. The entire hotel is right out of the early 20th century. Attention to detail is excellent. Best place we have stayed so far in New Zealand on the north island.

Service above and beyond
A lovely night out. Food was amazing. Go for the food but stay for the service. Cheryl the host was simply amazing and so helpful. We loved it so much we have booked for the end of the week.response / report this review -

Really great period and art deco style rooms. Well catered and friendly staff. Tiny bit of wear and tear showing but still worth the visit.

Lovely historic hotel. Rooms are all named after birds which makes a nice change from numbers. There's a lovely library area to relax in and port is available in the evening for residents. The restaurant and bar serve delicious food and wine with friendly staff. Love it here!

What lovely boutique hotel indeed. The Winston Churchill memorabilia made it just that much more special. Lovely staff - very helpful and accommodating. Comfy beds, clean rooms and overall a great experience. Very central location and truly boutique in nature since every room felt unique in itself. The free port and snacks scattered around the hotel added to the welcoming atmosphere. They even have a cell phone in each room in case you need a local number Excellent indeed!

We loved it here. Lovely old Art Deco place. Grand rooms and interior decor. Staff friendly and helpful. Loved the nice touch of decanters of complimentary port all over the place, particularly in the library - very civilised last thing before retiring.
