Superb. The chef is amazing. The food is at a hugely high std. Grab a gourmet meal for a very good price. Outstanding.

Despite the cherry efforts of the people running this place it is more of a miss than a hit. You certainty get a warm welcome, and special diets are enthusiastically catered for but the quality is just not there. The sauces don't quite match the food, the steak was full of tough sinew and part of order was forgotten. I'm not sure why they have table service when - possibly to justify their higher than average prices. I'm unlikely to return.

My wife and I stopped at Clinkers Cafe for a late lunch. The cafe was tidy and comfortable with very good toilets. Staff very friendly and helpful and professional. I had Calzone - huge and very tasty and my wife hardware lamb salad, also exceptional. We are now looking at our plans so we can visit again on our way home from Wanaka. Highly recommended.

The mousaka is to die for and my companion adored the rib eye. The setting is delightful and the staff were friendly. A lovely afternoon

Not a fan of the service we received from the older lady with short hair hence my 1-star rating. As soon as I walked out of the bathroom she raised her voice at me for using the disabled toilet. She was cleaning the one other women's toilet at the time & I didn't want to disrupt her & make her stop what she was doing. I wouldn't usually use the disabled toilet if I had another option but I didn't think it would be an issue for me to use it considering me and my partner were the ONLY 2 PEOPLE in the cafe at the time. She made quite a scene & it was an over-dramatic reaction to say the least. She refused to accept my apology and made me feel like a crappy person. Not a delightful experience.

Went there hungy and tired for a late lunch, expecting nothing more than a selection of plastic-wrapped sandwiches. Selected "Fish of the Day" from the menu, and it was best fish I've had in ages! Fresh, perfectly cooked and served with fresh veggies that had been cooked just right. And the portion was huge! Had coffee and creme brulee for dessert, and they were excellent also. Highly recommend this hidden secret, that seemed to be popular among the locals too.

Truly delicious, beautiful food. A real gem, nothing like what you expect from a cafe.

    Salmon gravlax was sensational.

just a few seconds away from the busy highway but it makes a huge difference. Busy but quiet. Amazing staff to attend and even better food.

I'm in the hospitality industry so I'm REALLY picky.. The new reincarnated Clinker Cafe is great, friendly, helpful staff and really good home cooked food. I had the best steak I have eaten for many years there - I highly recommend stopping and trying this place out !

As we drove through St Arnaud on our way back to Nelson, I had a car full of hungry mouths and the only option was pies in the local store. When I saw the sign for the clinker cafe I didn't think much, I thought it would be typical low quality small town food (I am from Auckland remember). But boy was I surprised by the service and the food- it was fantastic. Locally sourced ingredients, large serving sizes, authentic service and a view to die for. What else could I ask?

TL;DR A surprising little gem that you should definitely try out.
