Our time with 35 staff, parents and students at the lodge was great. It is an excellent location for school groups being well away from other distractions but close enough to all that the National Park offers. There are activities for the students and a well equipped kitchen. The heating did a fine job of warming us all and the drying room ensured our gear was ready to use the next day.
We will definitely be back!
We used this lodge during the last week of August 2016 as accommodation for a group of primary school children during a ski trip to Whakapapa Ski Field. A great spacious lodge with plenty of different areas (lounge, games room etc) for large or small groups. The facilities were generally clean and well maintained, and the drying room was a bonus that worked brilliantly. There was plenty of firewood to stoke the fire and lots of information and history about the lodge inside that the children found fascinating. The hospitality from the owners was great - they came and introduced themselves upon our arrival and ensured we had everything we needed. Will definitely be returning. Thanks.
This venue was perfect for a our group of 6 families. Heated well with plenty of space and the perfect location to head to either ski field! Also close enough to Ohakune for any needs. Well equipped kitchen but we could even choose from the many restaurants in Ohakune if we chose not to cook. We all managed to have a soak at the thermal springs too! The kids loved feeding the sheep, goat, chickens and ducks as well. Shona and Dean were always on hand to help out if we needed anything too. We will be definitely coming back!
This venue has worked perfectly for the year 12 Otaki College Outdoor Education classes over the last 10 years. It is roomy, easy to heat, has very good variety of bedroom sizes, reasonable kitchen and showers, superb drying room and comfortable dining, recreational and lounge areas. From this location we have been able to access Lake Taupo, Kinloch, for rock climbing, the Tongariro Crossing, rock climbing on Mt Ruapehu and hot swims at Tokaanu. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. The rates are acceptable and we'll be back.
Our family has been returning to this lodge every year for the last 10 years or so.
It's perfect for large groups of people. Our groups usually have a large number of kids, and they've come to love the place with it's many separate bedrooms and living spaces, and plenty of space to run around outside as well.
This lodge is perfect for skiing, snow trips, Tongariro Crossing or simply exploring the beautiful countryside that this lodge is in the middle of All of which we have done over the years, in recent years returning to the lodge twice a year to do different activities at different times.
The lodge has had new owners for the last few years who are excellent, accommodating, friendly hosts without being 'in your face'. They are engaging in a continual improvement programme so each year they have improved something else about the lodge itself and/or the running of the lodge. That's not to say that the lodge needs improvement, but it's fun to find that they've found a new set of couches that improve the cosmetic look of the lounge, or that they've started stripping back the lovely wooden doors to original wood :):):)
I highly recommend this lodge as a fun place to stay with all the amenities that you might require for any outdoor activity in the region.
Our Youth Group overnighted prior to the Tongariro Crossing. The lodge provided us more than expected with excellent hosts. The lodge is very roomy and catered for our group which was 30++. A homely feeling with very warm rooms, alot of bunk space and a large dining hall an. awesome
