Had a beautiful time on our (sadly) very short stay. We arrived and were greeted immediately with our friendly but not over powering hosts! Our bed was luxurious and huge, bathroom was very clean and well equipped. We had our own private lounge and kitchenette with coffee and breakfast was set out for us before we went to sleep as we had plans of getting up the mountain early the next day. Couldn't fault it the service or the stay at all! Side note- be wary of the gravel road on the way in, we came in at night and there were some rather large semi boulders lurking :)

The hosts of the Cairnbrae House not only provide accommodation, they welcome you into their home. Their lodge accommodations are beautiful, upto four-star standards, comfortable and private. They provide wonderful home cooked private dinners that were the BEST of our trip to New Zealand and family style breakfast that was both home-styled and varied.

Your view will be across a beautiful prairie to a snow covered mountain top and the grounds are host to a picture perfect heard of deer and an adorable golden labrodor.

Above all, the proprietors are wonderful people. After our stay, we fell victim to a robbery. The Cairnbrae House insisted we stay with them until we could sort things out and welcomed us as family for an additional stay as we re-arranged our travels and attended to police reports, passports, visas and the emotional distress of falling victim to a crime in a foreign land. We were the grateful recipients of such tremendous generosity and graciousness. In our time of need, the Cairnbrae house was a better resource than the local police, our embassy or our travel advisor!

Not every tour of New Zealand will pass through Ohakune, but every one that does should consider Cairnbrae House as their first option for accommodation. Wonderful people, wonderful food, wonderful accommodation. We are forever in their debt.
