Great hotel for the price. Big clean rooms. Comfortable and located near downtown. Would likely come back if I were planning to stay in the area.

The room was clean and crisp looking. We had a nice outdoor balcony and a wall of windows/doors. The television was mounted on the wall so you could direct it toward either bed. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure was great. I didn't try the pool but it looked well maintained.

Review from my parents who stayed the night of 18 October 2017. We wanted to put - (minus a star not even 1 star).
COMPLAINT dated 19 October 2017.
We have travelled extensively in the past 12 months from Auckland to Picton. The Ambassador (sic) Motel is easily the worst value motel we have struck - bordering on GROTTY. The food was barely average, even the TV was tiny.
The Ambassador has a culture of mediocrity and will never get the chance to bite us again. There was holes in the wall behind the bed, and mould in the bathroom with peeling bathroom.walls.
We wouldn't recommend this place to anyone - especially at $180 per night. It should have been $70!

The rooms were fine. Don't eat at the restaurant, we took a large amount of guests with us and it was embarrassing. The food was terrible, glasses unclean, it was very expensive for what we had been provided. The place was under-staffed, payment was a real issue and the staff couldn't itemize the bill for all parties. Food was very delayed and they forgot some of the orders. This is such a poor advertisement for Hamilton.

This hotel is a disgrace!
Do not book this hotel and expect a room to be available! 5 double rooms were booked for a week a year in advance. These rooms were booked online on the 7th of July 2017 for the 2018 field days and today 8 weeks later we get a phone call to say it is not possible to have been able to book these as no rooms were available. We are traveling all the way from Christchurch! We could have secured other accommodation 8 weeks ago! Where to begin. Doors that don't work and the handle breaks off when you open it. Mold all over the place because there is zero ventilation in the bathroom. Location is pretty poor unless you really like highways and parking lots. And for toilet paper, a one-ply dispenser that only gives you one sheet at a time. Wifi hardly works. Lift feels like it's going to fall apart. Reception somehow lost some important documents that were left with them the same day. Avoid at all costs

Staff was really welcoming and the buffet breakfast was amazing! As for the rooms I was really disappointed the place was run down and old in the one room there was mold on the ceiling as well as in the bathroom as for the kitchen the cupboards was old and smelling I did not want to eat or drink anything from the kitchen so we ate out a lot. The first night of staying there the next morning I went to the front desk asking to upgrade to the Clarion suits but there nothing avaliable. I really felt I was ripped off and over charged and as for the website they need to update it!! because they make the place look amazing on the website but it's really a old run down Place!! felt it's been falsely advertised!!

Very clean and well maintained, though a couple of formerly white walls in our room could use a touch-up. Also, it was raining - and the roof amplified it so much, I had to check the weather prognosis, plain rain sounded like a tornado or something equally extreme! Wifi would not allow to use the same login/password from multiple devices simultaneously - huge drawback.
