Food was good, not great, not terrible. Waitress was very nice and pleasant. The reason I gave this resteraunt a 2 star vs an easily achievable 4 star is solely due to the manager. He told us there was no availability the night before and then was able to squeeze us into a 6 o'clock cancellation. We arrived promptly and there was only one other table occupied. By the time we left there were only four tables occupied nearly two hours later. When confronted he lied and told me there were twenty people waiting downstairs. As you exit the resteraunt you have to walk downstairs and there was not one person waiting. Good decent, service was very good with the exception of the manager. Would never return unless there is a new manager.

My friends from UK had researched that this was the "best" restaurant in Christchurch. Upon arrival in NZ we phoned to book a table (2weeks in advance). Very poor phone communication, so we followed up with another call to ensure booking. Turns out we'd been booked for the wrong Saturday night! Phone service poor on other times I've rung. Either the call rings out and not answered or a foreign person answers and is very vague and unassuring,!!!! Not professional at all!!! We arrived at restaurant tonight 8pm. Police outside - apparently Prime Minister in residence. We asked for degustation menu with wine. First tasting arrived minus wine so we asked where was the wine? - a rush to resurrect this. Very nice food overall but over a half hour wait before"fish n chip"tasting plate and given an apology and more wine!! At 10.15pm and an almost empty restaurant we were told there was a problem in the kitchen???? As a local who had always wanted to come to this restaurant, then my friends from UK selecting it, I must say with the money spent, the wines were great, food pretty good but service poor. We all decided we would never return. Having just had a degustation dinner at Armisfield, Queenstown the week before, where everything went smoothly and quickly with courses and having a most jovial, informative, friendly, good humoured waiter who served us, Pescatore was a totally different experience. Very noisy at Pescatore including a large table of Asians singing loudly and videoing their experience. I had to ask for blinds to he lifted so we could see the view. After our first experience at Venutis last night and the best Italian meal and amazing service (at quarter the price), Pescatore was unremarkable to us all.

Great service, friendly staff, awesome food.
So many little extras included in the meal! And they were really good about my pregnancy - they brought out a seafood appetiser that I couldn't eat so they took it away and appeared a minute later with an alternate appetiser. The wait staff knew the food they were serving really well and explained everything thoroughly and everything was cooked to near perfection.response / report this review
