Great place! The kids love it here! Wish it would as bigger or had more exhibits. The discover area is great. $2 entry per kid but if you get the family card you can get in as many times as you like for a year!

Went into the museum after a trip around the botanical gardens. Great little museum where you can learn loads about the local culture and history. There is also a really good section on Antarctica too. Highly recommended.

Great museum! Exhibitions are beautiful and quite detailed. Do take your time and come here to learn about the history of New Zealand.

One of the greatest attractions in Christchurch, allow at least 2 to 3 hours to enjoy all the exhibitions. It entertains all age groups. Great location, admission is free but donation is recommended. If you are new in Christchurch I must suggest to visit.

The number one attraction in Christchurch. A Must. Admission is free but donation recommended.
This place is big with lots of exhibition from dinosaurs fossils, Egyptian mummy, to 1900 village and Paua House and Antarctic Machinery. Allow 2 hours minimum. Kids will love the discovery Centre ($2)

Great place to drop by and visit. Lots of interesting things are displayed here so you can learn about history and nature. We loved every single second we spend here. Will visit again we had a blast!

Free and amazing if your going to Christchurch visit museum for sure it's one of the best visit you can have in NZ , will take any entire day to check out the museum

A cool museum, definitely worth visiting if you're in Chch. The permanent expositions are really interesting, as well as the Air NZ exposition which is on now. You won't be disappointed!

The Antarctica exhibit is cool. See what I did there? The bird exhibit hasn't been updated since the cold war ended given the map referring to the USSR. Needs to get the blue whale skeleton back on display to earn the fifth star.

A place where one can spend atleast 2 hours of time. Entry free. Can donate a few pennies. Maori gallery is good. The layout is good.

Free museum however a 5 dollar donation is recommended. Open until 830 on Wednesdays. Good way to spend a few hours in Christchurch. Had a cool new Zealand air section when we went and the shells bit is very interesting.

Canterbury Museum is one of the highlights for tourists in Christchurch. Covering a wide range of New Zealand history, its permanent displays are interesting and well-presented; with the regular exhibitions adding interest for locals.
Rounded off nicely with a basic Cafe, gift shop and decent kids 'Discovery' area. Located next to the beautiful and vast Botanical Gardens.response / report this review
