A good zoo where you feel the animals are given as fair a deal as they can with big open enclosures. This does mean a lot of walking in the day however so be prepared for that and perhaps take the bus provided. Also if you look online and plan your day around the animal events you'll get a lot more out of it!
Amazing zoo! Beautiful environment and a variety of different animals. Feeding a girrafe is a must do ! It is a big place but the shuttle bus is always available.
Great day, lots of things to see, very enjoyable. I actually happen to have hayfever that day, and inquiring if they sold anything to help it, a lady gave me a antihistamine from her own possession, no compensation required. So what I'm really saying is, they have exceptionally friendly staff. Recommend Highly.
A very disappointing visit considering the $35 price for an adult. Many enclosures were empty and some of the enclosures are too far away from the path to actually get a good view of the animals. Overall layout is also awkward and signage could be improved. Felt more like a construction site to be honest. Animals also didn't look too happy.
Awesome wildlife park. Access is reasonable, however the park is huge, so be aware there is a lot of travel. There is limited cover in the park and due to Canterbury's harsh summers, it can get very hot! likewise, it is probably not great in the rain. There is accessible bathrooms with plenty of room.
Had a nice time especially on the encounter with the lions. With a eye on the habitat from lion it’s more to the humans, and you see stress signals. Also the tigers and cheetahs are the whole time walking next to the fences ; stress. It’s good big park but it need to improve see the gorilla as-well, in Europe for example a gorilla went out his stay easily.
Spent close to 4hrs at Orana park on Saturday.
Many empty enclosures at the moment which was a shame. The meerkats are always a huge hit with my boys though.
After walking around the park we took the shuttle tour. It was a nice day out.
Of the two wildlife reserves in christchurch, this is the one you want to visit. It's clean, the animals soar well cared for, and the staff and volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They went out off their way to point out photographic opportunities several times during my visit.
Park like setting for animals. Feeding times give you the opportunity to see the animals up close. In the winter the monkeys are not out on the Island though.
I visited with my 5 year old granddaughter. We walked around for just over 2 hours and saw everything. Fed a giraffe, the animals were all healthy and happy except maybe the cheetahs pacing up and down the fenceline. My granddaughter particularly liked the porcupine and I enjoyed seeing the Tasmanian Devil. Keep up the good work staff.
Felt more comfortable about seeing the animals in the enclosures here than I have at any other zoo. They appeared to have strong involvement with conservation and education which was great. Spent a lovely morning with my grandmother walking around investigating the different animals.
This wasn't our favorite wildlife park. It was so widely spaced out, and it took a long time to get from one part of the park to the other. It was fun seeing the lions and learn about the rhinos but that was about it.
Our small boys love Orana park. There is a lot of walking involved so be prepared for that. If you are going then the Giraffe feeding at 12 is always a highlight for our kids. Also if you live locally with kids then the season pass is good value.
My family and I did the lion encounter and was well worth the $45 per person for the experience. Seeing a gorilla with only glass between you and him was awesome to be able to get that close. Only negative was the distance between you and some of the African animals great they have so much space but was hard to see them.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience here during our vacation to NZ. Being from the States, this is the closest we have ever been to these exotic animals. We opted to do the lion encounter and even in the rainy drizzle, we didn't regret it for a second. You truly get an up close experience with the lions that you can get nowhere else. The animals were all extremely active when we came and the zoo is super informative in how we can actively help keep these wonderful animals alive.
