The penguins are Soo cute!! Be sure to bundle up, the breeze can be chilly and you're trying to move as little as possible. Bring a blanket.

This is a great experience and not to be missed if you are nearby. We paid for the premium experience, which was far more difficult to see the beach entry from, when compared to the standard entry. It was closer to their main walking entrance, and did enable walking through the colony on a wooden walkway. On the whole, a great experience.

I thought we’d easily get premium seats because of the time of the year and day of the week, but they were all sold out. Despite the cold weather, hard seats, and the long waits for the penguins to show, the place was packed. The presenters, who spoke English and Mandarin, did a good job of getting the inconsiderate patrons from standing up in front of everyone and blocking the view. I reckon they’d make a fortune if they rented out little seat cushions; the benches were hard and cold. Despite the discomfort, it was worth it to see the waddling waterfowl make their way up the rocks

If you want to have a very close observation of blue Penguin, remember to buy the premium tickets. No regret for it.

We did the nocturnal viewing and paid for the premium passes which were well worth the price. I'm glad I paid more. The penguins were right in front of us and we were able to walk through the colony and see them up close. No pictures or videos.

You have to remember that penguins are wild creatures, not trained entertainers. Once you get that down, you'll find no issues with this place. The visitor center is sufficiently helpful and the guides hosting the evening tours are friendly and helpful. Worth the costs knowing the conservation work being done there!

I came here during the day, so I did not do the nocturnal viewing of the actual penguins coming in. There is a $10 day use fee, which if it wasn’t going to the preservation of the penguins would have been exorbitant for what you experience. During the day, the penguins are out to sea or hibernating in their little “huts”. You pay your fee at the visitor center and are escorted by a guide back to the viewing house to see what penguins are in residence for that day.

The house contains viewing tubes down the boroughs of various huts and if there is a penguin in there you can kind of see them via red light. It is not the clearest viewing as the lenses are a bit cloudy/scratched and because of the lighting. When I went there were two chicks and an adult who was beginning to malt. It was neat to see them, especially the chicks. They are soooo tiny! You could tell the poor little adult penguin was not having a fun time w/the malting and I was lucky enough to see a few feathers come off. The feathers are super tiny as well!

After the viewing house, the guide walked me past some of the other huts that they provide for the nesting penguins, which are cute because it is like a little village of sorts. I was then left to walk around the viewing grandstand, behind which were some NZ fur seals. They were fun to see up close & personal and the coastline views were gorgeous. However, that was about it to see/do here during the day.

If you like penguins, you have to go here! And get yourself a more expensive ticket, it's absolutely worth the money. In the cheap seats you won't see as much, but from the more expensive seats, you have a great view on these adorable blue penguins! It's great what the people do for these little animals. Absolutely something you want to see and support!

This place is amazing!
I don't understand people that complain about it. 30$ it's a good price to give you the chance to see penguines in their natural habitat, but in a safe way.
With that money you can also help to protect them from the people that don't understand that we invade them territory, not the opposite!
Family with kids can't complain about that because it's a "show" from nature, not a show in the circus or a zoo If you don't really care about animals 30$ are wasted and you can go somewhere else, but if you really care about it, just enjoy the ""show" and thinking that you helping that little guys to continue them existence!

A unique and great experience. Watching the blue penguins landing at the colony after a long day fishing. If you can, get the premium ticket. The tickets sold out quickly. However it really worth the price. You can closely watch the penguins much more than the seats of regular price. In fact, I doubt whether the regular seats can see clearly the penguins that they are small and landed only near to the premium seats.
