Good stop off on long drive from Christchurch to dunedin. Interesting boulders although looks like tide comes in long way so best viewed at low tide. Cafe/restaurant and shop at top by car park.

Food was delicious. I had the fresh catch of the day. We sat outside and even though it was a chilly day we were blocked from the wind on the deck. Beautiful view of ocean. Just watch out for gulls-they will try to steal your food. Gift shop next door had reasonable prices.

Solid 3.5. Food is simple but tasty. Chowder was full of fish but bit too much flower and so too thick.
Coffee is ok - but on a cold day still a life saver. Service is friendly and fast.
Overall a good place to stop on the way even if you not going for the boulders

Loved this place we were lucky to get the weather on our side when we visited! The beach is beautiful and we'll kept. It was quite busy with a little t of people to see the famous boulders. I enjoyed the fact we were unrestricted from touching or even sitting in the boulderswith a lot of people standing on them trying to get there yoga poses shot for Instagram (losers) there is a nice cafe near by that offer fresh seafood dishes. I got the best chowder I've had in a while. The price is a bit steep considering the fish is just beside them but I guess that's tourist prices for you!

We had a lovely Blue Cod meal before we went down to the beach to check out the beautiful boulders. Despite the price, the fish was amazing.
The boulders are beautiful. They have such unique formations on them. Almost turtle shell like on some (not the colour).

A short stroll along the beach is refreshing. If u don't dine at the restaurant, u gotta pay $2 to enter the beach. The toilet at the restaurant is for customer only. Not open for public.

Just dine there, go for a walk after food. The food there is nice.

Great natural views. The place has a good coffee shop. Nice stop if you're driving to Dunedin along the eastern coast.

Lots of food from the restaurant to choose from. The prices are reasonable and the outdoor seating plentiful. It has a fireplace and the menu is clearly presented in the entrance. Great place to eat after enjoying the boulders. There is a portion of the building dedicated to information. With toilets for tourists stopping by. There is another set of toilets within the restaurant but these were locked.

Very good meal, great service, menu meals were a little over the top price wise but a
good range and plenty of over the counter options. Great view on another beautiful Otago day.

The restaurant food was great. However, portions were too small and prices too high. I supposed it'd be fine for tourists trying it out once in a lifetime. Boulders themselves A bunch of rocks on the beach, nothing more.

A fascinating experience. I'm left with so many questions, though – how the heck did these spherical objects get here? Are they actually rocks, or the eggs of some long-forgotten giant reptile/alien? Why are they so round? And how do I get one to put in my future Hollywood mansion, when I'm a vacuous celebrity?
One tip, though: don't bother using the "private walkway" and paying the suggested $2 donation to the gift shop – there are public (free) access points further up and down the beach that are perfectly convenient.
