Simply no words to describe how magic this place is. Get there and get the cruise to discover yourself. If you're blessed with a clear skies day, then that'll be even more awesome.

A must do in new zealand, great with good weather.
Take one of the cruises, they can be cheap and the journey in the fjord is staggering.
Smaller boats are the best ones, Even if they are a little more expensive, totally worth it!
Do not take the coach, you Will miss so much on the road, and you can't take your time.
Try to stop on the road on your way back, the light is better, there are less people around, and the coaches usually do not stop on the way back.
May and june are the best months, the Days are short, but you'll have the fjord (and the cruise) all for you.response / report this review -

It's one of those things you do twice: once in the rain and once in the sun. The amount of waterfalls you see in the rain is breathtakingly stunning. As for the sun, I'll have to come back and try the tour again. :)

If u can, choose :1. To drive up instead of taking bus. The route is sealed and easy to drive while it is not snowing. Check the weather forecast. 2. Take the earliest possible cruise u can, say 10plus. This will help u to avoid crowd on the route up (u will be on ur way up 7-9+ am ) and avoid the crowd on the cruise (tour busses normally on their way around 9-10am, and take the cruise at 12pm onwards).
On my visit, I was on a cruise that can hold 150
Pax, but there's only 30 of us include myself. Neat huh?
Stop by the lake mirror (7plus am) to view the lake before wind starts to come; and skip all the stop by on your way up. Do the stop by on your way down instead so as no need to rush for the cruise. Recommend to take early cruise ~

Fabulous! Great drive in, roads are so well maintained, plenty of spots to stop and soak in the environment and then to catch the boat out onto the sound. Fantastic must do if one has the time. Allow for a day trip if not staying overnight.

Milford Sound on a fine day is stunning. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Zealand. The whole experience from driving in and driving out leaves you breathless with scenery that is unique and unforgettable. There is simply too much to see here, walks, rivers, hiking tracks, boat rides, helicopter rides, water falls, sea life, just too much. Pick your day carefully if you can and take insect repellent and your camera. The road in is very easy to drive apart from a few twists and turns around the Homer Tunnel, but nothing to be afraid of.

Traveled from Australia to see this place, and the scenery is amazing. But compared to the rest of NZ its the usual amazing. The place is Spectacular, but heavily overpriced and over touristy. Couldn't find accommodation, no service and WiFi was $10/MB But aside from that Scenery was AMAZING. If only I had my Kayak 5 Stars for the area 1 Star for the Township (and I use that word loosely) so 3 Stars for the whole experience.

Beautiful. It rained in the morning and was clear/sunny by the time we arrived so during the cruise there were tiny waterfalls everywhere. Absolutely beautiful. It's a great drive up too. Looks like something out of Initial D at some parts.
