This place was a real disappointment. I had a rump steak that was so underwhelming it was a joke. The onion rings we had to nibble on were so soaked in oil, it reminded me of the addage'would you like some onion ring with your oil'!

If there was 3/4 of a star that would be it cos when I got there, we waited 5 mins to be seated, once we got seats, we ordered and waited 1 and 1/2 hour for our food to arrive. To my horror I found my fish and chips had 30 chips and 1 battered fish talk about rip off. For those going to Rotorua don’t go to this restaurant or you’ll fall asleep before you get food

Their service was terrible.
After deciding to eat here we walked in and none of the staff looked at us until we walked inside and they said to just find a table. The table we chose still had glasses and mess from the previous people and it was only cleaned once we were seated there.
We waited about 10 minutes before we were served however it was a further 15 or so minutes before they gave us a jug of water.
We waited another 5 minutes before they brought over other drinks that were ordered.
After waiting a further 20 minutes our food finally arrived! It was nice and worth the price however some items like the bacon out of the wedges tasted like fish as it must have been cooked in the same oil or pan.
Whilst we waited for our meals we noticed other tables had been partially cleaned or just left until more people came to dine and the staff then clean it. While we were eating, not once did the staff come over and ask how we were or if we were after anything else. Once we finished our meal the staff still hadn't come past to see how the meal was or if we were ready to pay the bill. Upon paying for our meal, the staff member didn't ask any questions but didn't hesitate to quickly help and put the transaction through.
The time of day was between 1.30pm - 2.30pm and not particularly busy either.
Must say that I won't be visiting again.response / report this review -

Love, love LOVE the pork belly dish. I always get it with the risotto which is also on point. Sorry no photo this time as we were too quick to tuck into our meals. Friendly staff & large seating area with lots of options.

The food was OK but that was basically the only good thing about my experience there. I was told to help myself to a table and was then ignored for a good 15 minutes while I tried to get someones attention. When someone finally showed up I asked which drinks were on the happy hour specials she said she would send someone over because she didn't know and then walked away before I could make a food order - despite the fact I was still talking. No one turned up for a further 10 minutes (I had to wave someone over) and then when I tried to order the drink specials they said happy hour was over (5 min ago!). They begrudgingly agreed to give me one round at the happy hour rate when I explained how long I'd been waiting. And then waited for the food to turn up. It was a bit busy but there were a few empty tables around and they could still spare one staff member to stand by the door and convince people to eat there.

My partner and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary last night - we were turned away as walk ins around 7 (with tables empty with no reserved signs on them) so we made a booking for an hour later.
After about 5 minutes we ordered. Drinks came out promptly however we waited just over an hour for our mains to be bought out (we did not have entrees). The table behind us had been waiting longer than that too. Not once in this hour were we asked if we needed anything such as more drinks or ensured that the food was on its way and we were in the most central part of the building with staff walking past us every two minutes. Food was good once we got it, meat cooked perfectly for lamb and slightly under for venison but glad it tasted good.response / report this review -

I had heard really good things about Macs, especially their steaks. The restaurant itself is a bit dated and feels a bit burlesque. The food was OK and the meat was excellent but a bit on the small side for the price. The sides were OK as well. Watch out if they ask you if you want a large beer. That will set you back $25!

We went on an extremely busy evening and unfortunately both the main meals we ordered were uneatible. The steak was cooked blue and unable to be cut when we ordered medium-rare. My mashed potatoes were clear and gelatinous and overpowered by way too much garlic and the risotto my partner had was undercooked and the rice was still crunchy and stuck in your teeth. Wait staff were friendly. Overall very very disappointing.

My partner and I decided to go here after walking down Eat Street, normally we check reviews before going anywherewish we had this time
The Good:
1. Blue cheese sauce was lovely!! Loved the chunks at the bottom, also great idea having seperate for customers to pour over.
2. The duck liver was delicious!! Could do with a couple more pieces of bread too..
The Bad:
1. We both ordered T Bone Steak Meals which were much smaller than the stated size (even if this was (the apparent) weight prior to cooking), I ordered mine med-welldone which was not was more med-rare, 3 staff asked me after we had finished how it was and I advised all, 2 said I will let them know sorry about this, the other however said I should've advised them soonerwell um ok you silly girl how can I tell anyone when there's no staff around and what are are too busy..!!
2. My partners steak was not tender and he had to hack away at it to cut it with the so called steak knifeyou're a "steak house" you need actually steak knives!! As for the mushroom sauce this tasted as if it was from a packet
3. It took over 25mins to get entrees only to be brought out mains while still eating entrees
4. Please bring all items together my eggs were on a seperate plate to the meal and had to wait for these and onion rings to come afterit's stupid to have a small plate that doesn't fit everything on it
5. Serving hot fries would be great!! Lukewarm when arriving and after waiting for other parts of meal and before even half way through fries were cold
6. Onion rings tasted like fish, which was not nice at all..
7. Fizzy drinks and juices are VERY expensive!! $5.50 for a keri type juice and $5.80 for a fizzygod the bottle doesn't even cost that much!! Your markup is ridiculous!!
8. My partner wanted to get another beer but unfortunately staff took the drinks menu right after we'd ordered 1 drink so unfortunately missed out on a sale there. Could be worth asking customers if they'd like you to leave the deinks menu..
It's really sad that this looks so bad and negative but they unfortunate it was exactly that..unfortunately we will not be back and I strongly suggest others check recent reviews before dining and others that do dine here post their experiences incase somehow they magically improve so others know.response / report this review -

We were there on a busy evening and I guess there weren't enough staff there to cope with the numbers. We had to keep reminding our waitstaff of our orders; I felt sorry for the guy because he seemed decent and professional but you could tell he was absolutely run off his feet.
The food itself was fairly average. We ordered a spaghetti dish from the kid's menu for our son and the pepper seasoning was way too high, and the mash I had was really lumpy and fairly cold.
When it came to paying, two different parties in front of me both had complaints about the service and the food.
We had an enjoyable enough evening given the crowds, but I think it would have been a lot better if they had enough staff on to cope with the numbers. That would have improved both the service and the food.response / report this review -

Cockroaches in the bathroom, filthy kitchen and floors. Eat here with caution !!!!!
Waiter leaned over to pass food down the table (I do not appreciate an armpit in my face whilst trying to eat or drink my water) he could've easily stepped to the side behind the served person. So, this waiter disappeared and on my way to the toilet found him stuffing his face with food, this is when I noticed how dirty the floor and counters were..GROSS. Meals are well over priced for bland food. I approached the waiter about a food grading (he had absolutely no idea) the only thing we found was an expired 2015 food standard. Appauling, told him bout the cockroaches and the dirty kitchen his reply, we trying to sort it out with pest control. REALLY. I would hate to know how many cockroaches are in the kitchen. Needless to say we all left feeling rather green.response / report this review -

Probably my favourite restaurant in Rotorua!
A good selection of classic hearty meals and desserts that always hit the spot. Certainly not the cheapest meal in town, but delicious food and big portions make it good value for money. Look out for the specials and deals on the boards out front.
Plenty of comfortable seating indoors and outdoors with a small logfire out front for the chilly nights.response / report this review
