This place was recommended to me by my brother (who currently lives across the ditch) whos had a ritual of going there with his young son whenever they're back and up in Russell. The staff were very friendly and service was prompt. Luckily it wasn't as busy as I heard it gets and our food arrived smartly and well presented. The calamari rings were the best we've ever tasted! Not smothered in batter like most other places we've been to and a light delicate flavour. The curly fries are the same as I remember from a similar place in Wellington, nice and crunchy and VERY filling. The ribsoh my lord the ribs. The only problem I had with the ribs was that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. They were tender and succulent and literally fell off the bone. The sauce wasn't too sweet or too sticky but just that right flavour to make the ribs even more tasty!
The tiny (and I mean tiny) downer for me was the salad/coleslaw could have used a bit more dressing but that small thing was more than compensated by the rest of the meal.
Will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family that visit Paihia and the Bay of Islands and will certainly be making that a regular stop when next I'm home

Can't really say anything against it, so 5 stars it is. Quite rowdy on a Saturday night as there was an adult birthday party going on, and can get semi loud outside of that too. Definitely seems like the popular dining place in town where you'd start with a few drinks here then move elsewhere. Staff was pretty friendly and attentive. Ribs were delicious, but onion rings (expectedly) were from a frozen box (I've worked in dining before and you can recognize them), but this is pretty standard in the industry. Good deserts too.

Very good experience. Went along on a Saturday. As they didn't take bookings for Saturday because it was very busy, and busy it was, So expecting bit of a wait it wasn't too long before we recieved the ordered kids meals followed by the ribs and fries by the friendly attentative staff -drinks refilled without having to ask. The ribs are so delicious with out being too sticky & sweet.

I ordered the veggie burger as I couldn't be bothered to have another tasteless beef burger, but they didn't have any left. So ordered the beef burger and thank god I did. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had!!! It was so tasty and moist. I would go back just to have another one but that would be an expensive trip. My friend had the ribs which was also very nice. We also shared a big cookie which comes out in pan still warm and that's how it should be!!

Easily the most prominent restaurant in the town center of Paihia, Jimmy Jack's is crowded most days of the week, so be prepared to wait tens of minutes or try your luck to make a phone reservation. Once you get in, obviously the pork ribs are the de facto dish to order. The ribs are generally tender and juicy and one portion is often more than adequate for the average diner. You may even want to prepare ahead by having a light lunch! A double portion is quite enough for three adults. Lots of drinks are available, including a few house pours. Be prepared to use lots of hand towels while you loosen your belt to fit those ribs.
