Cool idea to be staying in an old jailhouse. It is very spacious suprisingly. Location is pretty good. Plenty shops nearby. Just south west of the city central.

Fabulous. Small room as you'd expect a prison cell would be, but comfy and friendly staff. Great for 1 or 2 nights.

It's not the best backpackers that Christchurch has to offer. The service is beyond average the prices are way to high per night. It's just horrible to stay at and not even fun at all. Who in their right mind turn an old jail in to a backpackers? There are just no words to explain how horrible the place is. This place dose not even deserve a star or any good rating.

Staffs are not very welcoming. It is more like a hotel to me. Not much interaction here. Also, the heater is too weak to keep me warm. The price is high compared to other hostels, so I only spent one night. However, the best thing is the special jail building.

Only checked into this hostel today and already so impessed! Such kind, warm and welcoming staff and impressive conversion of the jail! You're not left without anything, signs everywhere informing if you want anything see reception, e.g. A towel, more duvets, pillows, hot water bottle. Great place, would love to stay longer if hadn't already planned a tour around NZ. Deffo reccomend ! Very interesting to view how the jail was before toorooms have been kept the same for viewing.

A very unique form of accommodation and loads of fun. The 'jail cells' are adequate rooms and the whole experience is a real hoot. A 'must try' for any stay in Chch.

Stayed in this hostel numerous times during the last year. Always a nice experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Run really well and great wifi. It's a bit out of town but that's not really a problem in Christchurch. Everything you need is in walking distance. Good bars and shops. Always my go to when in Christchurch!

Such a cool hostel, great atmosphere, staff, kitchen, and quality bedding.Great for large groups, or even for singles/couples. Fair pricing, free wifi and free tea! What more could you need really?

Exceptional value, clean, bright building. Interesting history. Due to the nature of the building guests tend to be very quiet when they are inside, making for a relaxing stay.

It's fun to spend a night in a jail turned youth hostel, but be aware that such old stone buildings tend to echo every sound and be quite noisy

Comfortable accommodation. Within walking distance of the city and there's nearby transit too. Large kitchen. It's fun to try on the provided prison clothes. Also, I was impressed by the speed of the wifi.

This is probably one of the best hostels I've visited in New Zealand. Great rooms, Wifi is free and amazingly fast and staff is friendly. Definitely would stay again.

Really cool, eclectic place to stay. People don't really follow the "quiet area" rules, nor are they enforced, but a $1 pair of earplugs solved that issue pretty quickly. The coffee at the front desk was good. There is a nice movie room with a big DVD collection, but I couldn't find anything DVD's in the cases.
