Spent my second night here recently. I found both my room and the staff to be good value for money. The first time I stayed I had a motel unit which had everything that you could want (tv, shower, kitchen tools, etc). My second stay was in one of the backpacker rooms (twin share) but even tho a lot smaller than the motel unit, still covered all the bases including been very cheap. Will be staying here next time I am in town.

It was terrible to stay here.. When I try to get BBQ grill operate, It is not working bcos of empty gas.
And room is also faked.. They figure it as dounle rooms. But we relized just One room, two bed room ha kkkk
And toilet and bath room is also dirty.
Service is bad as well.
The reception staff was so rude.. for him to say to me that You are bad at speaking English. kkkk
How rude like this ?? kkkk
Of cause I am forighner for not mother of English.
I couldnt understand for him to say like that.
Anyway, I wish all of travelers dont feel so bad in their trip time as staying here.
It is not deserve it to stay here. Bcos you guys time is so value. Dont spend the time in here.

Basic room, very warm and perfect for winter. Friendly staff, and the facilities were excellent. Well priced, and very close to everything in town.

Friendly staff and the rooms are ok, but not always clean. Teaspoons missing and cups a bit dirty. Very small and old TV, very basic ensuites. Very thin walls, not much privacy. Quite expensive for what you get.

It is cheap and in this case you definitely get what you pay for. Basic and not well maintained. The bathroom wasn't very clean and the rooms are tiny.

Rooms don't appear as they are sold. Very helpful staff. Paper thin walls and large complex so quite noisy. Easy walk to food and beverage areas. Kitchen missing a lot of items.

We stayed in the double room with ensuite. This place was apparently built for the dam workers so it met our expectation for its age and purpose. It's a basic room that was cleaned to an acceptable standard. The bed was ok however we would have liked another pillow as they were very "thin" at best. For the $90 it was much better than some other places in NZ charging a lot more! It's only a small town, but location is superb being just across from the town center.

Where to startwe saw the reviews but came anyway, only because it was the last accommodation left in Twizel on a long weekend. Believe the reviews and heed the warnings! This place does gets a low ranking for a reason!
[First impressions]
If you enjoy home decor from the 1950's you will love this place! The buildings and whole vibe of the place was that of a concentration camp.
[Cleanliness]
The place is a run down dump with dirty rooms and linen, I slept in my sleeping bag because i didn't dare to climb under the sheets. Our shower also contained left over PUBIC HAIR covered soap from the last guests. We tried to touch the least amount of surfaces during our stay.
[Inconvenient]
Our only light in our room was blown which was discovered when returning after office hours. WiFi SPEED IS RUBBISH and available at exorbitant rates. T.V. is pointless, my iPad probably has a bigger screen.
[Recommendation]
I seriously wouldn't wish this place upon my worst enemies but if you have someone you really don't like you could shout them a weekend at high country.
[Opinion]
The owner should be ashamed of this place and the prices they are charging. To all you over seas visitors this is NOT THE KIWI WAY!

We stayed in private rooms. Nice and easy. Access to local shops, gas stations. Easy to go to Mount Cook and Tekapo. Easier to go to Dunedin after a few days stay. Convenient place is Twizel.

Twizel is well worth a day or two stop over, with stunning scenery at a close drive and amazing fresh salmon from the farm nearby. High country lodge was well priced, clean and had great kitchen facilities. The only slight issue is in the shared dorms the beds are incredibly noisy. If you move even slightly they make a lot of noise, so it's pretty hard to sleep if there is other people in your dorm. I lucked out and spent 2 out of 3 nights without anyone else there, so it wasn't a big problem, but worth getting a private room if you need your sleep for the next day
