Stayed here for a week in a 4 share room. The room was spacious, beds were comfortable, room was quiet. Had a heater and a closet + a dresser. Hostel itself was older and needed some refurbishing. Lots of bathroom stall locks were busted, and taps all leaked or sinks were plugged.

Kitchen was ok. Free spices, but rarely room in the fridges or the pantry for your items, as the hostel kitchen/common room/outside area is dominated by the long term accommodation guests who didn't do their dishes, and didn't seem to care for anyone but themselves. Rarely saw the hostel staff.

Wifi works in the common room only, you won't get wifi in your bedrooms.

Very central location, close to everything, but the condition of the hostel and the long term guests made this experience less than ideal.

So, when I was booking accommodation for Queenstown, naively, I didn’t anticipate the competition I had. I wanted to book a room at a competing hostel, which had rave reviews, but resulted in something a lot less. Deco Backpackers - I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, however, to start, their website was very dated and strangely didn’t include many photos of the rooms. This wasn’t the only thing that was dated. Besides the view from the back garden - which is what has earned the extra star - the building reminded me of the restoration programmes aired in the UK of old/dilapidated holiday parks from the 60’s. The sheets were clean, the rooms were not. A long-term guest had informed me that a mouse had died in my room. On his return to this room it still hadn’t been removed. This resulted in there being “mummified” mouse corpse under a bunk bed of Room 10 for two weeks. Seems unhygienic to me. The “Free High Speed WIFI” is free, but not high speed. It’s also limited to the common room next to the kitchen. Sure, hostel living is meant to be about mixing with other people, but unfortunately, by 2017 you would expect a common facility of most accommodation to be available throughout. I’ve stayed in better accommodation in 3rd world countries paying $14USD/night, with better conditions. If your nearest Anderson Shelter isn’t available in Queenstown, book a room at Deco backpackers, where the duvet’s incur an additional fee /night, unless you have a BYO blanket of course, then you’re fine.

Great hostel close to downtown but in a quiet neighborhood. We slept in a 4 bed dorm in the main building and didn't have any problem with noise. The kitchen was super spacious and clean with outdoor seating to enjoy. I even forgot my (very expensive) camera in the room and not only did the folks cleaning the room turn it in, but the amazing Marla also sent it on to my next location! Great service!
