I recently had help from Sam Woods when I was looking at buying a central Auckland apartment. He went out of his way to show me some suitable properties and was generous in sharing his knowledge of the market. His approach was fair and professional. Although in the end I decided a city apartment wasn't right for me, I can say that Sam's definitely a friendly and conscientious agent to deal with.

I have had experience to own a few apartments right from the freehold at beach road to the leasehold at princes wharf dealing with a number of real estate agencies. The speed, efficiency and professionalism demonstrated by City Sales for my Mount Eden apartment has been amongst the best I have experienced. I respect and appreciate the people I have dealt with at City Sales. I give full marks for excellent handling of the sale of my apartment. Thank you City Sales.

Scott from City Sales has been a pleasure to work with. He has been kind and informative and sold my apartment within two weeks of listing for a reasonable price.

Before working with Scott I decided to sell my property with a company specialised in city apartments but had not received any offer over 2 months.

Overall I am very pleased with Scott's work.

Hands down the worst rental agency we have come across. I asked if there was any problems with mould during the viewing, was told that there wasn't. Less than a week after moving in, there was water literally dripping from the bedroom walls. When I enquired about it, the property manager (Stephanie Hill) sent me a newspaper clipping saying that windows should be open for at least 10 minutes a day and told me to buy a dehumidifier. Even with a dehumidifier and the windows open for as long as possible during the day, the walls were so damp and mouldy that we couldn't have any furniture on that side of the room. Photos attached below (only a select few).

The property manager changed 3 times over the 1 year lease and we were never notified about any of these changes. Only found out when none of my emails were being answered (including during the lockdown) and I had to cc in a person who had emailed out a generic COVID notice from the head of property management to get a reply. That person (Kerry Aitken) turned out to be the new property manager - eventually got an email about 2 weeks later introducing himself.

3 months later, this new property manager stopped replying when I asked about a possible rent reduction in light of the lockdown and the head of property management (Keith Denyer) emailed me saying that "Kerry is away". Didn't know Kerry had been replaced by Keith until viewings were organised - Keith had told me that he would email me to let me know if anyone had booked a viewing. Got nothing back and on the day, an extremely rude woman brought 3 groups of people to view the apartment. When asked why we hadn't been notified, she yelled at us to talk to Keith if we had any issues as he was the property manager. She ushered the people into the apartment, closed the door and left.

I asked Keith about the extensive mould issue in the apartment and if City Sales would be taking any responsibility for the damage to our furniture. I told him that the amount of mould was extremely unhealthy, that I wasn't even sure if the apartment should be advertised before this issue was fixed, and asked if it met the healthy homes standards. He simply replied, "I'll have a good look at it when it's empty".

Our previous apartment had no openable windows in both bedrooms but were properly ventilated; the mould levels were nowhere near this apartment. Lived there for about 4 years, could barely get through 1 at this apartment.

Easily the worst property management agency I've ever dealt with.

This is the second time I purchase a property via City Sales in as many years. Both times the experience has been pleasant with no pressure tactics, genuine understanding of my needs and willingness to go beyond the expectations. I have dealt with many real estate agents, and I can attest that Sam Woods has been among the most responsive ones, quickly answering queries, or setting the right expectations. Even though I did not get the property of choice, Sam came back with properties that would be of interest, and I finally settled on one. Even during alert level 3, we were able to settle with his help and guidance. Pleasure recommending him and the business.

Mould in apartment 1811 - Spencer at Byron, Takapuna

I had very bad experience with renting an apartment from City Sales Apartments in Auckland.
I was renting a one bedroom apartment, number 1811, in the Spencer at Byron Hotel via them.

When I moved in, I noted a very bad smell and tried to air the apartment for days without success.
Until I finally found the issue under the carpet in the bedroom. Black mould. See photos.

A bit later, I found another spot in the lounge room. The bathroom shower was leaking into the walls and water gathered near the kitchen.

All issues appeared to exist for much longer as to the evidence and discussion I had with the people that tried to fix the issue. Strange enough Sasha and Stephanie from City Sales never noticed any issues with the apartment before and still don’t smell any problems there. Once I sent photos they supported to fix the issues immediately.

In the end I moved out as the problems couldn’t be fixed within 5 weeks. I couldn't sleep well and started feeling sick.

Now they pretend the apartment was always fine and there never was an issue with it.

This is a case with Tenancy Services now.

I can't recommend their services for that reason and would recommend being cautious if you think about doing business with them.

I used City sales to rent a flat in Auckland CBD, and it was a bad experience, starting from moving in to a dirty flat, to maintenance requests not fulfilled for two months. After moving out, they falsely claimed my security deposit so I reported them to the Tenancy Tribunal and they returned my deposit. Very mismanaged and dishonest company, best avoided.
