Very cozy and friendly. Nice food with a good selection of fish dishes.
Staff have character food was delicious thanks for the great time
Went for a coffee and maybe stay for lunch but staff couldn't have been less welcoming if they tried. Didn't bother staying for lunch. Should have been a quaint place full of atmosphere, sadly the atmosphere felt like a cold shoulder
I’m not one for hyperbole. I usually give an eatery 3 stars if they are good, 4 if they excel. Carey’s Bay I’m giving a rare 5 stars. Friendly service, quaint surroundings, and one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. The meat was tender and flavours were beautifully balanced. It was so good that the following day, we seriously considered going again (I wish now we had)
The place is spectacular with the ambience and mood set well and blending in with the environment and the buildings of Port Chalmers as well. Clean and friendly, and amazing food, thoroughly enjoyed both the battered fish and chips and the salmon and monkfish fish cakes leave me wanting more.
Nice place. Beautiful atmosphere. Seafood is their specialty. We had three great dishes. Service was good. Food was very well cooked and the meals came out quickly.
Dessert was ok, coffee was good.
Had heard good things about the Hotel being seafood. So we went 4 lunch & a was disappointed. The prices are not cheap especially when the seafood is overcooked. Be wary of ordering the prawns any which way. They were over cooked 2 buggery. Rubber would b a good word. My husband had a steak sandwich & was very happy. I will think twice before coming again.
The quality and quantity of the food have slowly declined over the years. My mum and I use to eat our lunches here, ordering or favorite seafood basket. Be prepared with your purse. This is not a cheap place to dine in. The scenery beside the glass window is very nice but you will need to be lucky to get the two tables that have access to the views while you are eating. Those tables are always occupied so good luck.
Great food just a little bit too far from city
Great meal, good service.
Nice place for a group booking
A great historic little pub, offering one of the best seafood platters you will find anywhere.
For seafood in Dunedin, look no further, tucked away from it all and around the corner from the hustle and bustle of port chalmers. This is a great getaway. Grab a pint, have some seafood and the view is very appropriate. The chowder is great, as is the poison cru.
