Great location but the building is pretty old and the floors are very creaky. Just a 10 minute walk to the main street near the harbour.

Totally underwhelmed. This place has had no renovations and is in a rundown condition, the "staff" were disinterested and overcharged for my room. The bathroom facilities were substandard in poor condition somewhat unkempt with wet towels and urine on the floor of shared toilet , the kitchen was not much better.
I do not understand how this place has such a good reputation,it is poorly run by amateurs and overpriced. Out of all the hostels I have stayed in on my recent NZ travels this is by far the worse. If I hadn't been arriving late I would have gone elsewhere.
As a New Zealander in the hospitality trade I can say that this place is letting down the industry. A fantastic position in a small town that is sadly lacking. Could do better but it appears the owner sees it as some sort of cash cow and hasn't put any money into improvements. Word will get round and I foresee this place as a future doss house.
p.s 50MB of slow wifi is a joke when no other form of digital entertainment is supplied. The year is 2014. Get with the programme!response / report this review
