Very happy with the room; very NOT happy with the charge.

My partner & I stayed August 2013; we booked a "2 DAY SPECIAL: Stay 2 nights in any studio type at full rate and get 50% off 2nd night" (winter weekend specials, 1 May to 30 Sept on their direct webpage). We chose the "Compact Queen" room, $109 a night. I phoned the motel to book direct with them & was verbally given the price of $164 total for the two nights.

The motel was very quiet (almost no-one else there our first night), lots of good-sized car parks, very nice from the outside. The room was small but nicely decorated, nice and warm, the bed warm and comfortable; loved the shower! There was no noise from the other units on our 2nd night. Overall I'd say their 4 star rating was appropriate.

However, as I was loading the car & my partner went to pay, somehow the rates changed - the "full rate" became $130, so $195 total The manager said something about 'charging the full rate because we had the two day special' that my partner did not understand, & we were way too far down the road by the time she told me, to be bothered going back.

This probably wouldn't have happened if we had booked online but we wouldn't have got their "advertised special" because it doesn't appear on the other online booking services, only on their direct webpage.

So Would recommend the place for it's facilities - but disappointed with our visit because of the unexplained price increase

Perhaps the worst motel experience ever. After a long drive down New Zealand's beautiful west coast in rainy, windy weather, we were given a grungy, foul smelling room with stained chairs and marked-up walls. Not very welcoming. Worse, a few hours later we returned from dinner, got settled and then a knock on the door. The landlady told us we had to move rooms. My partner, arm in cast from freshly broken wrist was just settling into bed. I questioned why we should move and the owner went 'ballistic' insisting it was our fault! We should have known that it wasn't the correct room. What??? Gave us an hour and said she was going to get her husband to sort us out! Wow! We moved.

Otherwise, New Zealand is full of the nicest, kindest and most laid-back people on earth. Go there, just stay away from the Graymouth Bella Vista.

Clean, comfortable and 3 mins from the town centre. Bed was firm but OK and there was a desk to work from if required. 150mb of free Wi-Fi then charged thereafter with a number of options available.
