Room had ok furnishings but otherwise the building feels aged and rundown. WiFi was abysmal. Room was clean though and staff were nice. Restaurant and bar were closed for renos and I don't remember being informed about that pre or post booking, which is annoying when you just want to eat and sleep. Unless you have a car it is not really suitable for events at Ellerslie IMO (there is an Ibis which is closer). First served first dressed when it comes to car parks.

A very nice hotel in a great location. It's often difficult to find good accommodation for a family of 5 but Alpers Lodge ticked most boxes for us

Completely disappointed.
Right from the start where reception had double booked my room, to party goers in the room directly above mine.
After going outside at 2.30am to ask them nicely to keep the noise down (as I start work at 6am) they had a laugh and continued to party, swear, filthy language and even glasses thrown off the balcony onto the ground by my sliding door. After that I decided police had to come and take control. They tried to locate the party goers but they fled the scene.. after returning back an hour later (3.30am) they continued to make loud conversation and even threatened me. I would definitely not recommend staying here. 2 hours of sleep later I am one unhappy customer :(response / report this review -

Assigned an upstairs room above the laundry room in the back of the compound. After pulling luggage over unpaved path, climbing squeaky stairs, using a room key to open the lock of a squeaky door, we walked into a room with a double bed, surrounded by spartan furnishings (wobbly table, TV that is slow to respond though visually a nice flat screen), squeaky floor boards, a mediocre fan and opened windows without screens.
Returned to room after it turned dark and groped our way up the stairs. By this time, the image of Bates Motel came to mind. Opened the door which required a hard push and tried to go to bed early since we had a 7 am tour the next day. Realized that I had mosquito bites from the opened window in the bathroom; tried to shut it but was unable to due to the lack of lever on the window pane. Fortunately. my husband brought his pocket tools and shut the window. Anticipating mosquitoes homing in towards me, I slept restlessly and also due to the insecurity we felt for our room which was approachable by another set of stairs from the veranda side.
Retruning to our room the next day after our tour, the room looked serviced and in addition, some kind of brush with hair in the bristles (was it used for the toilet or the cups?) was left out. The bathroom window was left half open again. Besides mosquitoes, new visitors were on the wall- ants and with light, also spider web on the wall. Repeated the ordeal of closing the bathroom window. Definitely packs every bed possible into the room. Everything you could need though, and beds are comfortable.

Stayed Tuesday 5th July to Friday 8th 2016. Room 14 with queen and a single. Room was super clean with a heat pump flat screen Rv with sky and 5 gb wifi data which was very reliable. Continental breakfast was perfect for us with peaches youghurt toast juice and tea n coffee. The hotel was very clean and I was grateful to stay in a good motel. Parked car here and walked everywhere which was most convenient. Thanks for the great experience.
