Fantastic hostel, probably one of my favorites during my stay in NZ. Ben and Katie are extremely friendly and great hosts; they gave me plenty of recommendations for the area and even let me borrow a bike all day for free so I could make my way out to Mt. Fyffe. The hostel is very well taken care of and the location is great. Just a block away from the beach, a 10 minute walk into town, and a perfect location to start and end the trek around the Kaikoura peninsula. Wifi isn't free but is 100 GB for $5, and there are plenty of games and instruments for free entertainment. Had a great time during my stay, could not recommend this place more!

Owner was friendly to me but kicked my friend out only because we wanted to eat our food together before he went to his caravanpark. Nothing was said before about no other people allowed.
6 bed dorm was a 12 bed dorm. The half wall between the two rooms didn't make a difference.
Everything else is ok but too expensive anyway.response / report this review -

A good place for backpackers looking to socialise and hang out, but it was a little dirty and squeezy.

The best hostel we stayed at in New Zealand. A lovely homely feel very clean with great kitchen and very good showers. They put on a very affordable group bbq one night and a free pancake breakfast on Sunday. Little details like this marked it out. Great friendly atmosphere and easy going staff.

This is a lovely small hostel with a really comfy and friendly atmosphere. It almost felt like we were staying in somebody's house. There was even a communal barbecue night and a free pancake breakfast, and we were only there for two nights! We felt very well taken care of, and the cat was really cute. Highly recommend to anybody coming to Kaikoura!

About 15 minutes walk outside of town, but a really wonderful atmosphere here and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They have plenty of places to relax, even have some instruments available to play, and some free food and ingredients for baking or cooking on your own. Great place to relax and was easy to meet other friendly travellers here.

Great location close to town center and the peninsula. The hosts are amazingly helpful, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and the rooms are spotless and comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped.
