Beautiful neighbourhood park. Great mature trees. Lots of families using the playground and people walking their dogs. Nice (small) rose garden in summer. Toilets also.

Used to hang out here as a kid, was back with my daughter's, to have fun in the sunshine, and really cool new kids playground equipment

The garden is one of Christchurch's oldest heritage gardens and has many varied large evergreen and deciduous trees spread around the park. The original planting dates back to 1840.
The garden features a peaceful and secluded woodland garden with a stream running through it. There is a large population of birds here and can be heard chirping and warbling away.
There is ample open grassed areas with established specimen trees and garden seats scattered around.
A new playground has just been built in one of these areas with high quality swings, slides and roundabouts and state of the art astro turf to keep the little folk safe and happy should they take a tumble.
Another area has a well maintained paddling pool with a shade cloth covering and is popular with mothers and young children in the warmer months.
The park draws in a large number of well behaved dogs and their owners strolling around the the myriad of paths.
Another popular spot is the fragrant oval garden area featuring wisteria, buddleias, lavender, nepeta and other perfumed plants. It is a popular spot for wedding ceremonies and photographs.
When you are here check out the fornal well maintained rose garden at the southern end of the park.
Please be aware that at dusk booze artists and stoners infiltrate the garden areas and woodlands. Evidence of this questionable behaviour can be seen by the little collections of empty cans and bottles chucked in the bushes and heaped up here and there whilst having a brisk early morning walk in the park.response / report this review -

Lovely, small park in St. Albans, Abberley Park is great for those who want a quiet getaway and families alike. The forrested path opens to a beautiful rose garden with enough grass to relax on and read a book. For families, the small, open field adjacent the playground is a great one for kids, plus the big summer drawcard of the shallow, outdoor paddling pool is a big hit with small kids.
The pool is a decent-enough size that it's never too busy. Its even depth and shallowness means it's perfect for all young kids and it is partially covered by a shadecloth. Perfect!
The park also features an old colonial house which can be booked for events catering for smallish groups.response / report this review -

Quiet, green park with lots of segregated sections, good playgrounds and a clean, fenced paddling pool. Has a function room to hire as well.
