Located between the higher peaks of Pumori and Tobuche, this nice and accesible mountain is somewhat of a hidden gem. Remember to look for it on your left hand side as you walk the last parts of the EBC trail along the ravine of the Khumbu glacier.
While crossing from Dzongla to Lobuche village on the EBC trail, we traversed this mountain around its base, keeping it to the left. We literally hiked under its shadow and as a result, we were unable to see its top at times.
However, we got a clear bird's eye view of this mountain from Kala Patthar and also while trekking down from Gorakshep towards Pheriche.
Lobuche lies close to the Khumbu Glacier and Lobuche village is also nearby. There are two main peaks, Lobuche East and Lobuche West.
Lobuche East (6,119m) is a "trekking peak", and Lobuche West (6,145m) is an "expedition peak". As the easier trekking peak, the East peak is climbed far more frequently than the West peak.
The sunset view of the Nuptse peak was breathtaking. We were there in December and the temperatures are well below -15degrees. But, the view of the peak right from your tea House window was worth it.
Lobuche is the 2nd last stop for everest base camp before Gorakshep. Lobuche is located at an altitude of 4940m. here in lobuche there are lots of snowcapped massive peaks and you can also view Khumbhu glacier if you go up for a hike about 35min
Beautiful place to rest and eat on the way to Mount Everest Base Camp trek.
Wonderful place
Very good.
Long hard climb but worthwhile even if you don't get the full views.
I stayed with Hymalayan Wonders at the Oxygen Altitude Hotel on December 2016 ascent to EVEREST BASE CAMP. EXCELLENT PLACE FOR ACCLIMATIZATION AND RESTING BEFORE THE FINAL PUSH TO EBC.
There was a fresh breeze blowing from the West
