Big challenge and big reward, island peak should be your go-to peak if you're looking for a bigger experience than Everest Base Camp. Go for it if you're of sound body and mind, but don't forget to hire a good team of Sherpas.
This is the next step after you have done the Mount Everest Base Camp trek. Lovely mountains you are surrounded with. Physical fitness, goood training and mentally strong attitude is required to go on this journey. Only basic facilities available in this remote area of nepal.
Great mountaineering peak
Definitely not a Trekking peak.
You require some basic mountaineering skills to undertake this climb and expert guides to ensure that you are safe to ascend and descend the mountain.
Look for reputable companies to assist you.
Expect 12-14 hours on summit day from base camp around a 1300m ascent and descent in 1 day.
The hill and the way to the road are beautiful. If you can, go up. Good for the soul. Start packing!
Amazing place
One of the easier peaks over 6000m or 20,000 feet but still a good challenge physically and technically for a first venture of 6000m.
Imja Tse, better known as Island Peak, is a mountain in Sagarmatha National Park of the Himalayas of eastern Nepal. The peak was named Island Peak in 1951 by Eric Shipton's party since it appears as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. The peak was later renamed in 1983 to Imja Tse but Island Peak remains the popular choice.[2] The peak is actually an extension of the ridge coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar.
Imja Tse was first climbed in 1953 as part of a training exercise by a British expedition that went on to summit Mount Everest which included Charles Evans, Alf Gregory, Charles Wylie and Tenzing Norgay, with seven Sherpas.
Imja Tse is a popular mountaineering objective for climbers in Nepal, with its standard climbing route having the difficulty rating of Alpine PD+. The peak is typically climbed in a round trip from Kathmandu in 20 days
