Like all mountain airports in Nepal, Jomsom airport is also known to give its patrons shivers up their spine. At 2,682 meters high, flying into Jomsom is a good option if you want to do a Mustang trek, but don’t have much time. The Jomsom airport serves as the gateway to Muktinath temple, a popular pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists alike.

Jomsom airport is a very small airport in the Mustang district of Nepal. The entrance to the airport is also very small and can be missed easily, if you are visiting first time.
It operates flights from Pokhara airport only.
Tara Air flies to Jomsom and usually does 3-4 rounds/day, depending upon weather condition. Undoubtedly, the pilots are one of the best in the industry.
The best chances for a plane to land is in the early hours of the day, since wind speed picks up after that.response / report this review -

Jomsom Airport (IATA: JMO, ICAO: VNJS) is a STOL airport located on the bank of the Kali Gandaki River serving Jomsom,[1] a town in the Mustang District of Province No. 4 in Nepal, and the Mustang District. It serves as the gateway to the Mustang District that includes Jomsom, Kagbeni, Tangbe, and Lo Manthang, and to Muktinath temple, which is a popular pilgrimage for Nepalis and Indians. The airport is capable of handling aircraft from the Nepalese Army Air Service.
There are daily flights between Pokhara and Jomsom during daylight hours in good weather. Although the flying distance is short and flight time just 20 minutes, very high mountains between Pokhara and Jomsom require planes to fly through the Kali Gandaki River gorge with major peaks that include Dhaulagiri (8,167 m or 26,795 ft) and Tukuche (6,920 m or 22,703 ft) on the west and Nilgiri Central (6,940 m or 22,769 ft) and Annapurna (8,091 m or 26,545 ft) on the east. With Jomsom airport located at the head of the gorge, high terrain surrounding the airport presents a hazard when a go-around is required and when, as is frequently necessary after mid-morning, a turn is required at Jomsom to land into southerly winds. Cloud may occur in Jomsom while it is fine in Pokhara, in Pokhara while it is fine in Jomsom, or between the two airports; and heat from the sun in the Mustang District causes strong southerly winds in the Kali Gandaki River gorge and at Jomsom after early morning.Cloud cover, changing visibility, and high winds, often mean flights are delayed or the airport closed.
The airport is available throughout the year but visibility is not adequate for visual flight rules (VFR) flight about 15% of the time. As the wind often prevents airport operation after midday, airlines schedule flights to Jomsom for the early morning when wind speeds are low. Aircraft are turned around as rapidly as possible at Jomsom and Pokhara to complete as many flights as possible before wind speeds at Jomsom become too high or visibility forces the suspension of flights.response / report this review -

Dangerously situated.. the flight in makes you spiritual immediately;) but what waits at the end is sweet. Unbelievably beautiful. The whole town of Jomsom is just too good. This pic was just after my flight in from pokhara

Although considered dangerous but the view during entire flight from pokhara to jomsom is a lifetime experienceone crosses eight thousand meters Himalayas on a flight to jomsom from pokhara..

Best place to visit. Jomsom is a place where most swaminarayan religious people visit here as lord swaminarayan. Nice weather and hilly region.
