Simple but very nice place right on the beach. Small rooms but AC was great. Common areas very nice. Pool, hot tub, and 3 shady areas to relax--at dining pavilion, bar, or gazebo. Beach virtually deserted except for guests. Very friendly and helpful staff. Diego, the owner, arranged fishing trip in 20' panga for morning for only $80---and we caught some nice fish--a jack, a large needle-fish, and some red snapper. Food was great. Can buy drinks by the glass or they offer bottles or 1/2 bottle prices. We didn't surf, but waves were great. Nice place.

we were passing and we have discovered this lodge :
A little paradise lost .. we were alone just with the MAMA and it was wonderful : local products , beach , jacuzzi , surf , relaxation what else ?

If you are expecting a five star hotel then this is not the place. But rooms are confortable and staff is very nice. Very personalized service. No TV in the rooms, there is one single TV in the common area, perfect place to come relax forget about everything and read or write a book.

We were there Feb 2017
We loved going to Sumar we had great food and awesome service. They were very personable. The staff makes sure they know your name and where you are from and what you are looking for while you are in town.
We looked forward to stopping and having drinks or dinner because we looked forward to the great conversations , we would have with the people working there and their guest. They make sure we are always well taken care of. We feel like we are part of the family.response / report this review -

Looked this place up on the internet. Looked VERY beautiful. Get to Somar Lodge (after a very bumpy, uncomfortable, and long ride on an unpaved road) to find disappointment. Wasn't what we were expecting at all. The entrance looked a hot mess. The compound itself is very small, the most expensive room has a "private bathroom" that is outside, with a poor excuse of a wall. small pool area, and doesn't seem to be near much, but the beach. Cheapest room was $50/night, found a room for $40 a night in a hotel across the beach in las penitas, which was large, clean, had a REAL private bathroom, pool for guests, and was near everything.
