Just spent two weeks here, and it was great. Waves were awesome, guides lovely and super knowledgable, and the food was great.

Also, given some of the unrest in the main city, this area was extremely quiet and safe.

    Definitely coming back.

A beautiful, high quality surf lodge. Staff really make sure, that you have a great time. Your surf guide will take you around the surf spots all day long on a boat or on the car until you can't paddle any more. I will definitely come back soon!

Just back from Popoyo Surf Lodge.  Third time there for the all inclusive 1 Week Surf Package.  Last time was 7 years ago.  It was a great experience both previous trips and again this time and we’re already talking about going back.  The owner Kim Yemma and the entire staff, including our surf guide Will, the chef Dennis and kitchen staff, and even the nice room cleaning lady were all super friendly and professional and went out of their way to make us feel at home.  All meals are included.  The food is excellent and plentiful.  The rooms are large, modern, comfortable and clean.  Most importantly, our surf guide took us to the best surf spots for multiple sessions of fun waves everyday until we were too tired to surf anymore.  Some of the guests took a break from surfing to visit the historic city of Granada and nearby volcanoes, but for us it was surf, eat, sleep, repeat… exactly what we wanted.  Its not on the beach, but they make sure you get as much beach and surf time as you could possibly want and meanwhile they have a beautiful pool with shade and hammocks, perfect for cooling off and resting between surf sessions.  They took care of every detail so all we had to do was surf and relax.  Thank you PSL for another great surf trip.

Just checked out and could not have asked for a more enjoyable trip. The best surf lodge in Nicaragua. The staff make you feel like family. The rooms are clean comfortable and spacious. Renato is the most kind and caring guide we could have asked for. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the experience of a life time! I highly recommend choosing Popoyo Surf Lodge for anyone planning a surf trip to Nicaragua. Great waves and even greater people. Thank you for everything we will deinetrly be back soon!!!

I was looking for an adventure and couldn’t have ended up at a better place. I stayed in January 2018 with a goal to bring my surfing up a few levels (starting as a beginner). Renato was my guide and was phenomenal the entire time I was there. He showed me the ropes when it came to technique and really helped me improve to the point where I could ride a short board before I left! His instruction was great and you can easily see his passion for both surfing and being a role model in the community. He took me around to numerous breaks and somehow always managed to find the location with the best conditions each day.

Kim was a very gracious host and always made sure I was having a great time. The rest of the staff (Chef Deniz, Eric, and others) were all amazing and I couldn’t get enough of the delicious perfectly prepared fresh food!

Thanks again Kim and Renato! I definitely hope to make a return trip!

I would give it more than five stars if I could. I’ve been going on surf trips for many years and this was by far the best trip yet. They have everything figured out. Airport pickup and drop off, all your meals (amazing food), local surf guide to get you to the best spots (Kuliniki you rock!), and an owner and staff that care about giving you the best experience possible.

Amazing trip - wish I could give more stars! Male / solo traveler, first time in Nicaragua. Can't say enough good things about Popoyo Surf Lodge.

I stayed for 7 days / 7 nights. My guide, Wil, was awesome and extremely knowledgeable about the area. We'd start each day very early with breakfast and hit the waves right after. The guides do a great job of tailoring your experience to skill level - they really do try to cater to surfers of all levels. They'll take you to the best beach breaks and reef breaks in Popoyo as well as the surrounding area. We also spent a day surfing in San Juan del Sur, about an hour and a half away from Popoyo. We had 3 days out on the boat, where we went to some lesser known, less crowded surf spots that were super fun. Downtime on the boat meant plenty of fishing and we caught a ton of fish! Wil was with me the whole week, as well as other employees from the lodge who want to hang out, get to know you, and catch waves with you.

The resort itself is beautiful and secure. It's not right on the ocean but anytime you want to go, your guide is happy to drive you. I stayed in one of the Casitas and the rooms are simple, spacious, and clean (with air conditioning!). Perfect for solo travelers, groups, and families alike. It is extremely safe - gated with security at night. Chef Dennis (Pollo) makes delicious, authentic Nicaraguan meals (including meals with fresh fish from your catch!). Kim is a wonderfully gracious host - she helps make your trip as seamless as possible.

    Can't wait to go back!

Four of us just stayed a week at the lodge and had an epic time! I came with my 2 boys and a friend. This was my 18-year-old son’s second trip and he loved it. They surfed Beach Break, K-2, Estereos and more. Our guide Renato was amazing and took excellent care of us. He took my friend and I to San Juan del Sur for the day and we visited the Christ of the Mercy statue that stands on a cliff above the bay, it was an incredible view. Our 4-person casita was simple but accommodating. Every meal by Chef “El Polio” was delicious - our favorite was “en segundo lugar desayuno” (second breakfast). We also asked Renato to take us to his church nearby and he gladly did. It was so great to participate in a local service. We also brought 9 Waves for Water water filtration systems to keep my late husbands initiative of providing clean water to the local people going. Renato helped us find families that needed the systems and took us there, and translated how to use the systems for us. I highly recommend the lodge for any surf Nicaragua trip and we will definitely be back!

I spend 8 nights at Popoyo Surf Lodge and had an amazing time! Don’t miss Lobster Night, all you can eat! Delicious!

I have never surfed before and was up and riding small waves during my first session, and by the end of the trip was catching green waves on my own and experiencing with smaller boards. Their guides where GREAT! Thanks Renato and Will for making my trip extra special. Each day our guides would check the ocean forecasts and pick the best times and places depending on the swell and tides. They both had over 10+ years surfing the local area and knew all the great spots. We also had a few intermediate riders in the group, and they where able to give us both amazing waves to suite our levels, even the experts where out surfing the outer reef not far from my beginner spots. They did an amazing job of pointing out any hazards or strong currents, and I knew they where always watching our for our safety.

I’m definitely planning another trip to Nicaragua and will be staying here again!

Big Thanks to the PSL staff!

I just spent a week at popoyo surf lodge, and had the best surf trip of my life. This was our first "guided" trip, we usually just rent a car and figure it out. Having a guide was AMAZING! Every call that Jamil our guide made was perfect. My favorite surf was at playgrounds and Lance's, we surfed headhigh+ Lance's with a couple guys out, I surfed playgrounds overhead by myself, for a short time!
Everything at the lodge was perfect. Great food, great rooms, friendly staff. Kim, the owner makes everything smooth. Rides to/from airport were seamless. BTW we left our stuff, computers etc. in our room all week. This place is very safe and comfortable..

    HIGHY recommended!

First trip for me to Nicaragua, was absolutely epic! Kim is the sweetest host and owner and she provided fantastic hospitality! Great, comfortable accommodations with working AC. Smooth airport transfers. They set you up with guides here who are all awesome, Renato, Chris, Keke to name a few and my man Wil if you want to shredddd!!! He knows whats up and will show you how its done! I was a solo traveler and met some great other solo travelers here. The waves are epic down there and it was one of the best experiences of my life. They feed you good food all inclusive, cheap beer, bottled water and don't forget to grab some banana bread. High quality! I went to straight up surf all day all night and thats what I did. I noticed other non-surfers came by for quick little tours which you can set up with them if you wish, like if you need a guide around the area.

Thank you Wil, Kim and Popoyo Surf lodge! I will be back!
