Finca Magdalena was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was great and the location is secluded. There is nothing better than sitting on the deck drinking coffee from their Finca. The road getting to the Finca is bumpy but worth it. Hang around at night when they roast the coffee beans and you will be in for some amazing smells!

The staff, setting and surroundings are very good. However they cheated me on paid but undone laundry. The rooms are barely inhabitable (mosquitos, crappy beds, noise, dirt, and ever present red flicks from killed mosquitos). Quited after two nights for so many better places around.

Absolutely incredible, Dine with the monkeys and macaws, and see the petroglyphs as you walk the base of the volcano.

Great place, with cheap private rooms (15$ a night without bathroom). The location itself is beautiful with a great view of volcano Concepcion. The surrounding area has Angels Trumpet, White throated magpie-jays and many butterflies. There is no kitchen if you need one, but the farm offers good food until 7 pm. The rooms themselves are quite bare, the bathrooms are the simple, but very clean. The downside its a 1 km hike to the place from the main road in Balgue. But Finca Magdalena will order you scooters, motorbikes, taxis and etc. for transportation around Ometepe if needed (we ordered a scooter for 25$, plus cost of gas 5$). There is a trail head right off the farm to hike up to the Laguna at the top of Volcano Maderas ( 9 hour hike, pretty rough, we did not do it. I would suggest renting a scooter and going to Cascada San Ramon for a shorter hike and to see the 40m waterfall). They also have many petroglyphs in the area surrounding the farm and offer tours for 20$. Our guide was awesome and took time to show us not only the farm and petroglyphs but to explain the ecology of the howler monkeys and acacia tree. He also invited down to the local rodeo in Balgue that evening (which was a really cool experience). I had a great time here.

I loved! Clean, independent rooms, with everything basic for your stay. Beautiful setting, full of nature, very relaxing. The food is excellent and the staff super friendly. From the accommodation you can coordinate tours or motorcycle rental to visit the surroundings. The trek to the Maderas volcano is a must.

Beautiful setting, amazing building with heaps of potential. Dorm rooms are pretty basic but clean. Great place to set out for climbing Volcan Maderas.

Beautiful country setting off the beaten track. This is the real Nicaragua. Friendly staff, good local food and the best coffee I've had on my trip so far, grown out back.

Loved hanging out on the shaded, spacious front porch after walking around the farm and surrounding forest trails all morning. Also bought a bag of their coffee, roasted the day before, which was surprisingly well balanced.

Nice place to stay to be closer to nature. Very simple accomodations catering to backpackers. Really quiet at night and great views during the day.

This is a lovely hostel/camping site! We stayed two nights and climbed a volcano right out the back of the property! They offer spaces for camping, dorm rooms, private rooms and private cabins. They have great food and the service was wonderful! For a tourist island you would never know you were around anyone else! tucked way back in the woods at the foot of a volcano. Watched the Howler Monkeys as we ate breakfast!

This is a busy hostel. It might be a farm co-operative but the hostel is a huge part of their income. You'll NOT be staying on a quaint little farm with a few units, the hostel has a lot of beds/ spaces.
I'm not qualified to comment on hostels in Nic'a, so maybe it's OK for the double rooms to be really small and hutch like, and crammed together.
What put us off was the showers and sinks. There were only 3 sinks and they needed a good clean. The shower we used was worse with rat or similar droppings on the shelf.

The location is also a bit isolated. You have a long walk down/ the drive to the road/ bus stop. So if you want to hire bikes or go to the beech you have a bit of a trek first.

That said: the people running the place where really helpful and friendly. The food was fine and the beer looked cold.
