I’ll start by saying that if you are looking to drink and party this is the hostel for you in Leon. It reminded me of a college frat house. The bar is reasonably priced, and bartender “Rasta” was awesome. This place is not an environment for people over 40, or children. This is due to the loud music (8am to 12am) in the bar which engulfs the building, as well as the smoking and partiers.
As for the hostel, it’s pretty rough around the edges, but not a terrible place. The lockers under the bed were not in any condition to safely store your belongings, however the lockers in the common room were solid, but not 100% safe for my personal belongings. The dorms they offered was $8 for a non A/C room (10-12 beds), and $10 for an A/C room (15 beds). The bathrooms/showers were pretty standard for a hostel, and were literally hosed down daily.
DOWNSIDE
I was planning to take the shuttle from Leon to Antigua for $37 that leaves at 2am and arrives at 7pm in Antigua(ouch) with a short stop in El Tunco, El Salvador.
So at about 11pm I began to repack my backpack for the long overnight journey. This was in the common area with lockers and the pool table, as I didn’t have a room while I waited for the shuttle. At this time one of the “long term” guests in the hostel that befriended me during the Volcano boarding tour distracted me by specifically asking me to write down a fellow travelers email and phone number. At this time “Darci” stole my GoPro literally right in-front of my eyes. I am very careful with my possessions when traveling especially my camera and phone, but he was not your average thief, this guy planned his attack from the get go. What makes it even worse, is I believe this may be a regular occurrence at this hostel due to the “party” environment.
When I realized my GoPro was missing within 1-2 minutes, I confronted Darci and requested it back very nicely without causing a scene and of course he denied it over and over. After getting management/and the owner involved, I knew I was clearly disadvantaged due to not speaking Spanish, as well as being a gringo. By this time most of the hostel guests knew what was going on.
So, After going back and forth for over an hour, and considering calling the police to search the room, I simply gave up as I didn’t want to get myself into something I couldn’t get myself out of over a $150 camera. At this point it was 12:30 am, and the shadiness was overwhelming. I told the owner to just forget about the camera as ripping apart a 15 bed room with at least 5 people already sleeping was not in my best interest.
I felt completely unsafe staying in the hostel, traveling in any vehicle booked though the hostel, or even staying in Leon another night. After doing more research about the shuttle to Antigua, I came across an article and warning relating to an incident last year with some Australian backpackers that were hijacked at gun point, tied up and assaulted in the middle of the night coming from Antigua to Leon. Needless to say, my life is not worth a cheap shuttle across 3 countries.
I am 99% sure management/owner knew about this guest being a pinche puta thief, and whether they were all in on it together or not, they still have not removed Darci from the hostel.
Travelers, be aware of your surroundings especially in this hostel, but most importantly do not take your eyes off your valuables. Even when sleeping, as Darci was staying in one of the beds in my room, and I am lucky my phone wasn’t gone in the morning when I woke up.
Don’t get me wrong volcano sledding was fun, but not worth the trek to Leon. The city is very dirty with trash, very few restaurants to eat, and few landmarks to see. Granada was much nicer and felt significantly safer than Leon as there was a solid police presence.

Good location relative to the cathedrals of Leon, and scenic neighborhoods; noise unfortunately travels through and AC is a must (at an extra cost); the bar downstairs is inviting, as is the restaurant with decent food. Staff is helpful and pricing is fair but tours are quite steep (the norm for areas around).
Volcano boarding was fun, but did not satisfy what perhaps I was after. The adrenaline didn't kick as much as it was hyped to, and instead of awe, I found myself struggling to board down - luckily I didn't end up last and having to do lava bombs. If you are looking to party with people you just boarded down a volcano with, you've come to the right place! Also note that you carry your own boards, which was good exercise for me - but there was someone with back issues on the tour. You can also have a local carry it for you for some money - it'll be mentioned during the orientation.
Note that the shuttle to Antigua, Guatemala is a mini-van that is quite bumpy with little to hold on to - and no seat belts should there be an accident.response / report this review -

Must be noted that this tour can not be done if you are allergic to bees as there is a high chance of being stung.
Was very annoyed to only be told this on arrival after arriving on time and having them muck around (they left an hour after the set time).
This is something that needs to be pointed out online.
Even after telling them I was allergic they still tried to tell me to go saying it’s not that bad, only after I said I wanted my money back the guide showed me a photo on his phone from days earlier with his backpack covered! They were seriously going to risk someone’s health at the risk of having to refund??
What other safety are they willing to breach??
Leon is not a nice place so very annoyed I came all the way there for them to only give the disclaimer in person and not online.
Super unprofessional and dangerous.
Also there are other, better organised companies in town that actually give back to the community if you are really keen on giving volcano boarding a go.response / report this review -

Came for the Volcano Boarding at Cerro Negro and stayed an extra few nights to enjoy the sites of Leon. The tour guides and front/bar staff are extremely helpful and have great personalities for the job. Always helpful and the hostel was accommodating for extending our booking and utilizing the huge lockers for our gear when we decided to go exploring. The pizza was top tier, got it twice. If you like big parties and mixing and mingling by the bar or pool you always have the opportunity. Lots of great adventures and memories were made here. Would definitely recommend for travellers in Leon.

Good party hostal in leon. Beerpong night was tun. Arrange all kinds of tours, activities and shuttles. The double room was nice and quiet enough for us. Only a door to the bathroom was missing and would be nicer instead of only a curtain.

Really good ambiance and great staff. Its a little bit noisy, but if you like to party its a good place. Theres a pool table, a beerpong table and a pool. We went volcano boarding with them and we had a great time. The guide was super funny and the staff was friendly. Even the truck ride was nice with music and beer.

The staff is very friendly, it wasnt kicking the first night but my second night was fun. Did the vocano boarding and beach afterwards, both very fun. Only reason im giving a 4 instead of 5 is because the rooms were quite humid and stuffy. Other than that this hostel was great

Popped in to see if my friends were there. Was ushered out the door before I could even explain. Who has a full on bar open to the street and no signs saying patrons only? Would never stay here.

Really fun party hostel. However lots of the parties go to the beach which is super fun to take a party bus out and back and it also means that those who need to sleep are able to! AC Dorm was amazing highly recommend. It's nice paying online too as u don't have to worry about currency or debit/Visa card fees when paying. Volcano boarding is a must with these guys. There are slightly cheaper tours if your skimpt for cash but for fun and atmosphere big foot is the best. U get a few free drinks and also a free nights accommodation at the beach so make sure you cash it in!

If you want gung ho party like a frat house on frosh week this is your spot and you will have a great time. Good food, base for volcano boarding and other videos, you'll be right in the action. Not a place to relax.

We didnt stay in the Bigfoot but we did the vucano boarding which was amazing. The Guide (Marvin) was an awesome guy who explained it everything and also created a good vibe in the whole tour.
Also after the tour we went to the beach (shuttle for free) and we had an awesome night on the beach and some jnanngaar.
Even the days after we spent time with the people from Bigfoot. The staff were really friendly and they welcome you as friends.
I will definetly recommend other people for staying in the bigfoot or do the vulcano boarding.

Really fun party hostel. Staff and rooms are top notch, pool is great with fair prices at the bar. Guest kitchen did the job but the restaurant is a solid choice too! We came in on Saturday night (Canada day) and the intense music didn't stop till 2am meaning a not so great sleep for one night of our stay.
Best option for Volcano boarding with plenty of extras and a charismatic guide!response / report this review -

Dorm were messy and loud. Too cold at night when air conditioning on. There is no way to sleep but perfect if you want to party and get wasted. The stuff is terrible. Either very rude or giving wrong info. Even made jokes in Spanish thinking we wouldn't understand. The organised tours, shuttle etc are over priced. You are better off organising your own things without the hostel. Overall didn't enjoy my stay.

Came here for the volcano boarding. It was a good time, nice hostel if your looking to party. If you don't like the heat, get the a/c room. It gets hot and stays hot in Leon.

The Volcano boarding with Bigfoot was great, Ben was great at making sure we had a good time and also gave us a lot of history about the sport as well as general facts about the Volcano and Leon. Overall the day was fun, including the hiking. The 5/10 minute breaks were helpful in making sure everyone was not tired as well as good photo opportunities. We had someone hold our boards although you could opt to hold them yourself. I think having someone hold them for you for the 1 hour hike up the volcano was roughly 5 dollars but very much worth it, if you are not fit enough. The volcano boarding was fun although I'd recommend to go as fast as you can, to enjoy it even more. The journey back to Leon was also a lot of fun, as we played games and drank beer provided by the team and listened to music.

Not bad, but definitely not great. My main issue with this hostel is the staff consistently lied about little things. For example, the fridge wasn't working and they claimed multiple times to have fixed it or will fix it again within the day. This negligence to fix it caused multiple peoples' food to go bad, and when speaking to other travellers who had been there earlier, they mentioned a similar experience. Food was good, however!

It's a great place to meet a lot of people. Although it is a party hostel, the party doesn't go on all night which is nice if you want to get some sleep. The staff are very friendly and there is a lot of showers so you don't have to wait too long.
