The tourist accessible part of the Buffalo Core Area in the Bwabwata National Park is not that big but is totally worth it! The entrance fee is very cheap and you have access to beautiful landscape especially around the flood plains close to the Okavango river. In only 3 hours in the Park we spotted waterbucks, red lechwes, bushbucks, hippos, crocodiles, many elephants, wattled cranes, ververt monkeys, baboons, warthogs, bushpigs (grassing on the floodplains in the end of the day, quite a rare sighting) and lots of buffalos.

Incredible area -- such a contrast to other parts of Namibia. One can see so many elephants, hippos, crocodiles, baboons, and unusual antelope, even during the self-drive tour we did alongside the Okavango river. Many choices for where to stay - well developed area, but easily feels remote a few minute's drive away from the lodges. Definitely worth the long side-trip from the rest of Namibia - one of my favourite parts of our 3-week trip!

The whole region is magnificent. Lodges and campings are usually by the river. You can always do safari cruises in the rivers. There are thousands of elephants in the area. Here we find many species that we cannot find in other regions of Namibia such as hippos, wild dogs, buffalos and the rare sable and roan antelopes.
