A week on paradise! I have no complaints about this placethe service was amazing, entertainment staff was more than entertaining and so engaging. My kids just loved them especially Angelo and Mitzi. I love that the resort isn't sprawling and everything is so accessible. Omg and the spa, I swear I received best massage I've ever had, the Mayan purification it was like a hot stone massage to the 100th loved it! We will definitely be returning to the Catalonia for future getaways
The hotel is large and beautiful and is well kept. The staff are friendly and the water off the beach is filled with fish. The resort let's you visit each of the a la carte restaurants once and you can only visit three of them if you do not have a preferred room. Because of this you end up at the buffet rather frequently on your stay and as such it would be nice if the quality and quantity of the food was increased.
Very unhappy with this resort, sadly have to give one star to give a review, will never visit a Catalonia Resort/Hotel again
Within the first few minutes of the check-in process, we knew there were problems. It was quickly pointed out to us, since we did not pay for extra room upgrades, & since we weren't Exclusives members (time share holders), we could NOT eat in certain places, could NOT use specific beaches, could NOT use a specific bar, & that we could only get blue towels for the beach rather than the white & beige striped towels (a member of our group that paid for a room upgrade, which came with the striped beach towels, caused some controversy when she tried getting a towel from the lower class towel stand). There was a small shack, pretty much in the center of the main travel area where they were trying to sell their Exclusives packages, & we were rarely able to walk past without being bothered.
For our 5 night 6 day stay, we were only allowed 3 meals in the main restaurants. A family member did the room upgrade, they were there one extra day, & they were able to get a 4th meal. In these areas, the food & service were very good. Outside of these were the buffets The food for breakfast, lunch, & dinner was not anything special to speak of. Very disappointing, & since it was not very good, it was difficult to eat enough to fill up on, & eating the same thing over & over became very mundane.
Beaches Very limited. The water goes right up to a wooden walkway for most of the beach area, a large area on one side of the walkway was filled with seaweed, & the other end was a nice little area, but as I said, little. To get to this little beach, you have to walk past the Exclusives bar & small roped off beach area.
Drink service, even at the pools, was almost non-existent. We had to go to the bars, which weren't a short walk from the beach, or to the swim up bars to get our own drinks. I'm not lazy, but that also kept me from giving tips. I guess in the evenings, the bar at the South end was serving drinks to the beach, but we didn't do much sitting on the beach in the evenings.
Drinks Weren't bad, if you enjoy cheap alcohol. Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, & a bunch of others are on display for everyone to see, but those "top shelf" alcohols are for Exclusives members only, & you'll quickly be told that you can't have it if you do ask.
While we were out of the room one day, our toilet didn't shut off, the tank overflowed, flooded the bathroom & started getting into the main room. They did have it repaired soon after we found it, & the next day they gave us a fruit bowl with a bottle of champagne. Aside from the toilet leak, which can happen to any of us, we also only had two days that we were able to take hot showers. There were six other rooms in our group, none of which had hot water more than one or two days!
I really don't have much of anything good to say about the place, & I hate feeling this way about it, but of the 17 people in our group, none felt much differently. Luckily, we enjoyed the area & the company of each other. None of us will go back there though.
I liked the general beach more than the one for "privileged" clients. We had nice clean room, A/C made quite a lot of noise. Food pretty standard, we would appreciate more changes throughout the week. We have two small children and overall we enjoyed this hotel. Tipping here and there will definitely get you more attention and better service.
Nice resort Beach is small however if you like to snorkel this is the place for you. It has a nice reef in the bay. The food, like most resorts, is fairly blah, so for sure try the other restaurants. Make sure you walk to town it has amazing eateries with excellent food. Prices on food and drinks are very reasonable. If you are a beach bum make sure you get up at the crack of dawn to place your towel on your lounger chair to get a premium spot. This was to reason I gave it 4 stars.
I went with my family of 12 November 17 we has a great trip. Food was good Beach was great and protected with a break wall so great for kids and first time ocean swimmers. Snorkel right on beach. Entertainment was great every night if you want it. Lots of live music at pool. Easy to get into A la carte restaurants. Bikes to ride to marina with dolphins and seals. Golf carts to rent.
Great resort not too big not too small.
OK property, a bit worn down. The staff is friendly, but there is no developed service culture. As it is an all-you-can-drink resort, at times staff members may get overwhelmed with visitors.
Rooms and views are a hit or miss. Even if you get the premier status, it may not mean much. There is an ongoing remodeling and if you work/rest during some of the day then the construction noise is a good reason to get moved to another (potentially better) room.
Buffet food is good. Mexican restaurant is very good. Avoid the tapas place - all show, no (good) taste. Make sure to bring plenty of small cash with you too can not be "added to the bill" or "signed to the room".
Beach is great and good for snorkeling. Beach equipment is fine, and fresh towels are available 7:00-19:00. Make sure to bring your own snorkeling gear, as the gift shop sells a set for USD 70 - about 30% above reasonable cost.
A short walk south of the resort (turn left from the resort entrance and follow Bahia Xcacel) is the Dolphin Discovery Riviera Maya, which is great to visit in early afternoon, maybe, around 15:00. It is free to walk around - dolphins play, stores open. There and on the way to it are a few interesting food places.
The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. What needs major improvement is the hotels guest services. I will try to keep this short as it is a long story. There were a French couple below us who were incredibly rude. It was 10:30 pm, we had four people sitting on our patio talking. They were a level below us, yelled up to us multiple times, and called security on us. Security told us we were fine as he sat down by our room, didn’t hear a thing, and said they wanted something to complain about. They continued to yell at us from their level, waking up the guest on both their floor and ours. The night manager came up and rudely told us to quite down. Multiple guest from our group and others went to the front to complain about the French couple and the nightly manager for how we were treated. The front desk was upset that the night manager treated us poorly. Guest services called us and had us come to their office. We did thinking we would get an apology. The lady at guest services was extremely rude. I was stunned by this whole event. She told us she would like to get our side, we tried to tell her, but she kept interrupting and saying what we were saying was not true. She said that the security guard doesn’t speak English. We sat down there and had a WHOLE conversation with him. It was absolutely ridiculous. We had a group of sixteen (only four was in our room) You would think they would want us to all come back, and for us to be treated so poorly by that woman at guest services I’m not sure we will. She said that 6 other rooms called and complained, and I tried to explain to her it was because the French guest were yelling at us from their level waking up multiple rooms. She would not even let me explain. I ended up saying “thank you” and walking up and leaving. We were trying to enjoy our vacation as well, and for us to have to take time out of our vacation to speak to guest services, and be treated poorly by them as well was not great. The french guest were moved to a retirement home (just kidding, they were younger) but they were moved. And guess what? No more problems after that or complaints from any other rooms! I wonder why? 🤔 Aside from a very poor guest service, and very rude French guest (through the entire stay), we did have a great time. The bartenders were absolutely wonderful. We had blast meeting a ton of great people. The reef was wonderful (bring your own snorkel gear). They only let you rent snorkel gear for one hour a day. The hotel was truly wonderful for my husband and I. Other people in our group had problems however. One couples shower was cold the entire time. Another did not have air conditioning the entire time as well. Upgrading to ocean view was not really worth it. It was more of a pool view. The food was great though. The steakhouse and Japanese restaurants are amazing. The entertainment was wonderful. We delt with the broken AC and the cold showers. The reason we may not be back is because how poorly we were treat. I’m not sure if we will give it another shot or not. Our 16+ group will probably be looking for another resort to stay next year.
The resort was beautiful and clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had requested a King size bed. What we got was two double beds. The one bed was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. Horribly uncomfortable!! The other bed did have a piece of foam on it so it was a bit better. My husband and I did not fit comfortably in these small beds so we got to spend our vacation in separate beds!!! There was a horrible leak behind the toilet. A constant drip drip drip. We had to keep towels laid down to soak up all the water. The food was not very good with the exception of the hot dog stand and the snack bar. None of the food was hot. It was lukewarm at best. Probably wouldn't stay here again.
The staff are very helpful, hardworking and friendly. The food has been great. The are grounds are well taken care of.
Been great so far. On the beach. Food is great. Lots to do.
The hotel is less than I expected for a 4 star. I have stayed at better 2 star resorts. The buffets are subpar at best and not refilled, help is rude and act like its an inconvenience to serve you. The resort is under construction and they apparently put everyone by it to see if you will complain. They down graded us once we complained. We repeatedly ask for an alarm clock and was told the resort was full and they couldn't spare a clock. We have stayed at the Catalonia in the Dominican Republic and in Tulam. Would not recommend this resort.
I love this resort! I've been to a few and this is my favorite so far. I like the location of it. The hotel is within a gated community so it feels safe. The entertainment is great. I highly recommend going to the steakhouse. Not so much the Mexican restaurant. If you want authentic Mexican food then you won't find it there. You'll have to go into town for that .
The Pro Dive Shop people are the absolute best that I have ever had the pleasure to deal with at any resort. Tip of the hat to John, Willie, Annie, Annabel and the entire Scuba team.
The Hotel was beautiful, the attention to detail was spectacular.
The Food & Beverage Manager, Miguel was awesome to deal with and Manuel at the Beach Bar is top notch.
The Sunrise is beautiful- Can't wait to go back!
Amazing experience here. Catalonia Riviera Maya and the Catalonia Yucatan Beach are two sides of the same resort with shared amenaties. My fiance and I love everything about these resorts. We have been before and decided to come back to get married. So far, everything has been wonderful.
Fantastic place well worth the money food exelent 5 difrent restaraunts on site all free
Room service is terrible they don't clean right leaving the same towels, trash behind, rude. We had massage included in our package for 30 minutes, only received 15 minutes. We had the privilege package, but early in the morning was woken up by construction being done in the rooms next door. The food from the buffet and snack bar was cold at times and the same things where served everyday no variety. The restaurants where a lot better. Not many options for room service either. This is not a beach resort, if you are looking for a beautiful beach don't come here, it's nice but not the best too much seaweed, not enough beach chairs either, all where always taken. The pool always had barf in it somewhere. Some bartenders try serving the same drink twice. The restaurant love and Japanese and Mexican and Italian where very good. Received better service there.
Very relaxed, right on the beach in a protected bay. The food is plentiful and all inclusive. Free WIFI. Free Safe. Puerta Aventura is a large gated community so it is posdible to go for walks down to the marina etc.
Great hotel, its located in the Puerto Aventuras complex in the Riviera Maya given it an exclusive and private feel. Great service, loved the central pool. They recently opened a creperie and i have to say it's a must. The rooms are well kept and tidy. Everyting is a few steps awat and there are many thing to do. The beach is shallow, great for family swims. Will come back to this amazing hotel.
