Awe inspiring site. There is so much more the Chichén Itzá than just the main pyramid we typically think of. Plan on a couple hours to see everything and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. we arrived right at the 8am opening and it was already busy, but not so much you couldn’t get solo photos without hordes of tourists. By 10 that had changed and the whole place is swarmed with hawkers and tour groups. Even still it was completely worth the 254 peso entrance fee. The Castillo really is amazing as are many of the other ruins and we had a fantastic time seeing everything!

A beautiful historic site with plenty to see. Visiting the ruins helps you realize how massive and advanced the society that lived there were. I toured this site on a cruise ship excursion so my time was limited. It was worth seeing it this way but I would recommend planning a visit that would allow for at least 3 hours on site. Also, a tour guide is highly recommended to provide additional information.

Make sure to arrive early! We rented a car to try and beat the tour buses, got there around 8:30 and ended up in the back of the parking lot. Ticket line moved fast maybe 15 people in front of us. Grab drinks, potty, sunscreen, etc before you go through turnstile there is nothing inside. It was a sight to see my son said "wow I didn't know it would be so big!". We spent about an hour walking around getting photos looking at souvenir stands then we where ready to eat. We decided to eat there and prices were okay, food was decent. When we left it was a mad house could barely get to the bathrooms. Parking lot looked like an amusement park buses taxis everywhere. On our way out we saw they where selling parking spots about a half mile away and it was full so again arrive early.

This place is so much larger than you think! It is an entire city complex and we were able to get pictures of over 20 buildings. I would recommend the deluxe tour with Cancun Adventures. They are very knowledgeable and some of them are Mayan, so it is very personal to them. They also have a market for souvenirs if you are game to haggle. This is a must trip if you visit Eastern Mexico 😀.

Amazing place well marketed, and worth the trip. My wife and me stayed all day long since we went on our own and not part of a tour. Although, if you want more information than the one on each monument, which is too merely, you must hire a local guide or buy a leaflet or the tour guide booklet in the library since none info is free.
Try to get there as early as possible since this archaeological place tend to get really crowded.
If you are part of a tour, prepare to run looking just a tiny part since this place is huge with lots of ruins to be covered for 2 to 3 hours trip. So, you may see part of it, and probably the most icons of it. But, honestly this place deserve to be visited and detailed at all.
Giving 4 stars due to the fact that it could be a bit more organized due to the important past of humanity. Although, I would recommend to visit it hands down.response / report this review -

We've all seen the pyramid on so many photos that we may think that we know what to expect. This is one of those sites that you really need to have a decent guide. Not only is there so much more on the main site, but you need to understand the place that this site fills in history.
You also have to keep in mind that only 40% of the area has actually been excavated.
Inside the huge compound there are many sales people. What is important to note that there is also a set of toilets, and, near the toilets, reasonably priced cold drinks.response / report this review -

Overall it's beautiful! Be aware If you are not going in a tour many will try to stop you to give you a package. You do not have to get it at all. You can pay $250 pesos approx to get in and they have signs you can read. I speak Spanish so I was able to ask the people selling stuff about the history (they know a lot) if not you can get a guide. I'm not sure how much they charge but ask prices cause they do differ.

This THE place to visit. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and funny which made it that much better. A ton of walking so bring plenty of water. Also a ton of people will try to get you to buy from them so be warned. I was able to haggle down on a ton of stuff so I got some great stuff cheap. Do not be afraid to haggle the price and walk away cause that’s when they give you the best price

If you can plan a tour group, you will find out some amazing things about the Mayan ruins. Wear your best most comfortable shoes because it is A LOT of walking. Many vendors selling their hand made items are willing to bargain so if your a good haggler you will get some amazing silver and souvenirs to bring home.

Had an amazing time at this historical site of Mayan culture. We were given the checklist from the tour company which was really helpful in terms of packing extra water, snacks and extra clothes since we visited various different places. Our guide was really informative and it was such a nice and memorable trip. It is hard for me to think how the Mayans used to live and their traditions..

One of the 7 wonders of the world. A must see when in the area. I did a tour with Nexus Tours and it was quite good. Guide was knowledgeable. Be sure to check out the smaller ruins that are the only ones that are untouched. they are a 5 minute walk from the main one.

A great day out at this historical place with a company named Cancun Passion.
This was a top class tour with a very informative guide, they all made sure we had everything we needed and even came back on the site during our free time to make sure we had enough drinks.
The site is amazing and well worth a visit.
It is very hot and you will need a parasol and lots to drink.
You can only get to within a few feet of the monuments these days but it's still worth the experience of being there.response / report this review -

Feel how it was like to live during the Mayan period. Walk freely and experience one of the world's wonders. You will feel the energy when you witness the enormous limestone structures. Many tour companies to choose from and vendors are abundant and kind. The sky is beautiful. Go early. Bring water and your GoPro camera to get the best photos and record your memories.

Beautiful place! I wish I was able to climb to the top of the pyramid to see what was up there. There are alot of handmade crafts for sale in the immediate area. I liked the fact that the items were very cheap. Make sure to negotiate all purchases. I noticed I was able to talk them down by merely Walk I g away and going to another vendor. I'll be back..

This place is so amazing. So much history so much culture. The souvenir shops and stands are really great prices probably 75% less price than outside . You just have to brush up your bargaining skills. The sales people are local Mayans and they're super friendly. Many items and many of the sales people are willing to trade instead of money as well if you have something you're willing to give them. I can't say enough about this place make sure you have plenty of time to spend here.

Quite the interesting view into an ancient civilization. Huge village left from a society started before the time of Christ. The Mayans were ahead of their time with being able to predict seasons & years. The observatory model is one we still use today.

Awesome historical site. Went on a tour via our hotel and Aventuras Mayas (Said is an awesome tour guide, ask for him) . Long drive from Cancun but well worth the effort and time. Excellent info throughout and the site itself is awe inspiring.

Absolutely stunning ruins. Quite easy to get to, with friendly English speaking staff. A must see for everyone.
Mind that the street merchants are very obtrusive: they can become difficult to ignore, though can provide you with some neat souvenirs. Practice haggling: most sell the same items, don't buy from the first merchant you see unless he drops his price.
While a guide is not essential to enjoy the ruins, it may help to find all the different sections of the complex: up to personal preference.
If it's sunny, do bring sunscreen: there is very little shade around.

We had an amazing time here! It was mind blowing to see these ruins and imagine the history behind them. My seven year old son thoroughly enjoyed himself as well. It was very clean despite the tourist traffic. We went toward the end of the day and, while there were definitely other people around, we had the space to take our time without bumping into others.

Always heard about this site in History books and documentaries but got to see it in real life! It was an amazing experience. We booked a tour before we visited Cancun so we wouldn't get lost driving. Luckily the day we went wasn't very hot and there was a breeze. Our tour guide Pedro did an excellent job of explaining the deep rooted History about the structure in English since our Spanish isn't the best. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!
