HUGE!!! We walked around for several hours and still didn't see other people. Its a but of a drive on some rough roads but completely worth it. The caretakers will round you up at sunset to keep the jaguars from eating you. Once you see how wild it is this makes sense. Structure 2 is a must see! Spider monkeys and howlers if you look up. Wild turkeys and other birds everywhere!

Awesome place!! My advice is that you should enter as soon as the place opens. There are three different walks with different durations, and the longest will take you more than 4 hours. For us, choosing a guide was a good decision. It took us almost 8 hours, from arrive to the entrance, and to leave the place. Carry water and food with you, for the whole day, inside the reserve there isn't any store.

I cannot recommend this enough. The site is massive, the ruins incredibly impressive (and you can climb them), everything is hidden in the jungle, and last but not least there's very few people. Feels like Indiana Jones. Totally worth the extra travel.

One of the most important Mayan cities but still mostly undiscovered by tourists. You can book tours ahead by searching online or just hire a guide at the gate. It is a full hour off the main highway but worth the trip.

Long drive but that meant almost no visitors and a breathtaking experience! Walking in the jungle underneath monkeys and birds, you can discover great ruins, for me the best in the Yucatán Peninsula. Climb up the pyramids (~40m), you'll look over the endless jungle of Mexiko and Guatemala. We went in the afternoon and had all ruins to ourselves (and the monkeys) :)

Don’t be put off by the comments about the bad road, it’s not that bad. This is well worth the drive down to. My favourite bit was the view from the main temple and hearing the monkeys talking. You are right in the middle of the jungle with no sign of modern civilisation for miles. Very special.

We saw a lot of ruins during our time in Mexico, but these were by far the most magnificent. Quiet, and hidden away in the jungle, there is no touting or hustle and bustle like in Chichen Itza, and you can explore and climb the ruins to your hearts content. A word of caution though: realistically this place is only accessible by car. I know of no bus that travels along this route. It is an extremely long way down a narrow potholed bumpy road, and a full 6 hour drive from Campeche. My advice would be to travel to one of the hotels near the entrance, stay the night, travel to and from the ruins, stay another night and then return. Doing all the driving over 2 days was exhausting to say the least. But we'll worth the experience, if you only see one of the amazing ruins in Mexico, make sure it's these ones

Hard to get there, but certainly worthwhile. Probably better experience than Chitchen-Itza; no vendors, no rows and lots of animals. Climbing the ruins is fun!

The most incredible ruins I have seen in all Yucatan. Still not that known by mass tourism (thanks to the fact that it is pretty far from the Riviera Maya). You can climb the piramids, at your own risk, but you can. Amazing. Worth the 60 km drive in the jungle!

Hard to get there especially without car. Hitchhike works. But worth it. The park is well maintained and the pyramids are magnificents. the views up there are great.

If you are visiting mexico you can't skip this. Reachable by taxy from Xpujil in 1h40min. Taxi drivers will wait you at the ruins for 3 hours, so you can visit the ruins and came back with the same taxi

Really difficult to visit, but that helps keep flocks of tourists away. The road in takes about an hour to drive and is riddled with potholes. Completely worth the adventure!

It's a nice adventure to see these Mayan sites that are digested by the forest. The forest wasn't the kind of rain forest I was expecting but it was nice.
