Such a friendly, honest and easy going place. We rented life jackets in order to swim with the turtles. Cristian was extremely helpful and sincere. Love this place, it's a haven in the akumal madness.
Friendly staff, fair prices. Rented life jackets to go see the turtles and Christian was kind enough to explain the different zones and rules to us beforehand.
You can rent just a lifevest (100 pesos) and snorkel (another 100 pesos) here and go explore on your own! Very easy and friendly people helping you as well. You can also use a locker for 100 pesos or leave your bag behind the counter for free (as we did, worked fine).
Be aware that everyone outside wants you to go to the dive shop which is a different place where you have to pay 100 pesos just to enter the beach. DON'T BELIEVE THEM. The beach is free. Just ask for the dive CENTER and you can pass through a hotel for free (yup really, super weird).
Best option to experience snorkelling with turtles in Akumal. A guide is not needed to find turtles, just rent the good equipment from the diving center and showers and storage are provided.
We dove (Scuba) with "Dive with Natalie and Ivan" who use this dive centre. Natalie and Ivan went out of their way to make our experience personalized and enjoyable. They also did a bubble maker for our 8 year old (shallow water trial of Scuba in the bay) that she enjoyed greatly and will remember forever.
Very poor. Sent them an email a week ago and they didn't even have the decency to reply.
Highly recommend Akumal Dive Center, everyone there is super nice and friendly. I did my Open Water PADI Cert. with Javier Iturrieta and it was the best experience I could have hoped for.
Uncertain if I would like SCUBA or being underwater in an environment where I can't breathe.. Javi really made me comfortable, confident and shared his love for the ocean with me. We saw rays, turtles, amazing coral, and so many other surprises.
Highly recommend Akumal Dive Center and Javier for your instructor! Have fun!!
Friendly, gear is is very good condition, located perfectly at the beach
Very Friendly and helpful. Rent your life jackets and snorkeling equipment here and see the turtles for way cheaper than the $30- $50 "tour".
You don't need to have a tour guide if you are comfortable with snorkeling.
Gear and locker rentals are reasonably priced. I believe it was 350 pesos for 2 people for the day. Very convenient. Next time I go back I'd look to rent fins because the current is hard to swim against.
Love the place. You're 100% sure to see turtles if you dive here. For scuba its great place definitely. Now for snorkeling they have very restrictive rules (your head has to stay on the surface) and they usually host huge groups, so i cannot recommend it. Also they are restricting more and more the beach size with fences and constructions. No more what it used to be 5 years ago. What a pity. So that's why i can't give it 5 stars anymore
