There are a lot of variety of vegetable and fruit. Price range is moderate to high depending on the season. It is also a well known tourist trap. So be very careful before buying anything.

This market is packed with an abundance of delicious fresh fruits and vegetables where you can easily buy a lot of food for cheap. The only negative feedback was the stalls thinking they can sell spices to foreigners and overcharging is okay just because you come from another country.

Definitely worth visiting while you are in Port Louis. There is a combination of local stores and some tourist tat. As in an locations, the Mauritians are friendly, but expect to be approached for cash by a "helpful" local who is willing to show you around their favourite stores.

At the market you find vegetables and fruits for a very acceptable price and good quality. For this five stars. BUT beware of buying spices there! Especially if they are prepackaged. For example there is an overweight woman and her husband, who lures tourist to their little stall. They try to sell spices and other articles (chili paste, tourist souvenirs) from ordinary supermarket for 1000 % of the price and more!!! That's definitely criminal. Just go to Super U (Grand Baie) or any other supermarket to buy those articles for reasonable prices. And don't be fooled: what they call saffron in Mauritius often is nothing more than ground turmeric / curcuma ("indian saffron").

Don't leave without visiting the market. Be there early. Lots to buy from souvenirs to clothes shoes food and much much more. Bargain with the traders. Must try the coconut water served straight from the coconut. Very reasonably priced curries served with freshly prepared dhal puri.

Good place to shop for fresh vegetables, fruits, spices and some fancy goods. There is also a mini food court with plenty of food stalls, selling a huge variety of food. Cleanliness can be improved.

Try not to get robbed. Padlock your bags keep all bags in front of you, don't take your money out in the street, the thieves are watching and the local police will not be of much assistance. Be ever vigilant.

Fresh produce downstairs, lots of cheap tourist stuff upstairs. We bought lots of souvenirs and clothes at dirt cheap prices. Just be prepared to walk away, and you'll get the price you want. It can be a bit overwhelming, just think of it as a game and have fun.

It a huge market where the locals go to buy their stuff. It's impressive to see how they trade and you can buy spices for a really cheap price. It's much more interesting to go shopping in the central market than in the Caudan Waterfront Mall where the taxi drivers usually bring you.

If you're coming from a south Asian country, or Seattle, you'll get this market.

There is loads of stalls, everyone bickers about pricing, everyone tries to swindle you with 'I will give you the cheapest. Only for you'. So yeah, pretty nostalgic.

The food is ready good, textbook Mauritian, loads of places for dholpuri and Alouda, and really cheap.

BUY SOUVENIRS FROM HERE. YOU'LL FIND EVERYTHING, AND DIRT CHEAP.

Central Market of Port Louis is an amazing and attractive place not only to buy vegetables, fruits, herbal medicine, cakes,bread,fresh juice but also to visit. A blended atmosphere of smells of spices and herbs spread in the air. You can hear the sellers eliminate one by one the name of their products all day long. The smell of red chillies will make you sneeze but you will like what is going on there. You will have the chance to be melted in a crowd of mauritian buyers. Around the market you have a wide range of a variety of shops offering everything that you think you would want to buy or would desire to see. Over the market, souvenir's shops are available. You can eat mauritian food not too far from the market

Port Louis' famous Central Market, the centre of the local economy. Many comment that it's lost much of its dirty charm, but it's still a good place to get a feel for local life, watch the hawkers at work and buy some souvenirs. Most authentic are the fruit and vegetable sections (including Chinese herbal medicines and aphrodisiacs).

This is a place for tourists who enjoy haggling. Vendors in booths will call to you on all sides, and the minute you look at something, they will be right there trying to get you to buy. Prices here are outrageous. For example, we happened to need some chilli powder, so stopped at a booth with spices. RS 150 for a small bag that costs RS 14 in a grocery store. I doubt even a master haggler would get the vendor down from RS 150 to anywhere close to RS 14. This experience really does not convey what Mauritius is about. I'm Australian and live here in Mauritius, and sometimes I go to the central market to buy produce and meat. If you are a tourist and want to check it out, just be prepared for a tactic that involves speaking really fast and loud at you in order to confuse you. Be firm and tell them to slow down and be quiet or you will leave.

Great Local Market. Mondays the Market is a bit bigger and loads of fun. Interesting food court and loads of fruits and veggies. I found the vendors far more pleasant than in Port Louis, where they were very forceful and tried to rip you off.
