Really lovely staff, always at reception (they offer bus/train tickets and other information). Nice, comfortable rooms, air-conditioned, towels and toiletries provided. Good breakfast (toast, fried egg, fruit and tea/coffee served on the balcony.

Nice place. Good breakfast and very nice staff. Bathrooms are big and clean. The entrance is a bit smelly but it is not the private entrance of the hostel

Reasonable for the price, but the stairway smelled of cat pee when we first arrived and our room smelled of chemicals from the broken air-conditioning unit

Very basic room. Clean but very intense funny smell like old wardrobe. Not nice to sleep in. The smell was inside the room. Already the entrance of the building and steps up to the hostel smell horrible of cats pee. You feel like womitting and then the smell un the room. Anyway the place itself is nicely decorated, bathroom clean but smell of men pee as they have real pissoir in every bathroom, not very clever.
Staff is nice but don't speak english almost at all.response / report this review -

I like the decorations of this hostel, feel like home. The room, the bed the staff there all super friendly! Thank you for your help and we wanna thank you again we arrived late really late like 2 am even interrupted your sleep, you still show us around and tell us where we settle, thank you Shannlay hostel !

If you want the feeling of a home away from home while in Myanmar, get a room at Shannkalay Hostel! You'd never believe it climbing up a damp, muggy, green-coloured staircase up to the third floor, but the ambiance once you take your shoes off and step in the door is ever so restful. The place is clean and the bedding (aside from the rather high pillows) is simply divine. You'll sleep like a baby! During our three week trip to Myanmar and Thailand, we stayed at four different hotels and one hostel. Some of the hotels were of the finest quality, but the Shannkalay beat every one of them by a long shot. The next time we visit Yangon, this is the place we'll choose as the place to stay for the whole time.

Room with no window and shared toilet. Nice atmosphere and breakfast. Toilet not very clean. Staff very nice and helpful.

We kept coming back to this hostel- 3 times during our stay in Myanmar! The location is convenient closer to the train station and Sule Pagoda, the rooms are clean and cool, and the staff are incredibly helpful. If we come back to Myanmar, we'll stay here yet again!
