We read about this place in the Lonely Planet and decided to go - it was well worth the effort getting there! The show was a unique and amazing experience - one of the very few (if not the only) places you can still enjoy a traditional Burmese puppet show. The show is performed by puppet Masters and the owner's family, inside the owner's flat. Before the show, there's a very personal introduction which you should not miss, and there's time for questions and photos afterwards.

A truly unique and intimate experience. Mr Htwee welcomed us in his apartment and gave a thorough introduction to Myanmar's puppeteering tradition, his family's history and puppet anatomy. The show was fun with a lot of dancing and traditional music. The puppets came to life and were very expressive, especially those equipped with independent eyebrow, eyelid, mouth, and even mustache movement! The puppetmaker is one of the puppeteers' husband, and his lab can be visited upon request. The puppets are very pretty and maneuvering them requires lots of practice. The show is more of a "demo", according to Mr. Htwee: the puppeteers are not hidden during the performance, so the audience can observe their skills in action.

Great, unique Yangon experience. Mr Htwe and his family welcome you into their home for an introduction to the art of Myanmar puppet theatre. A great way to support a struggling art form and to meet real Myanmar people. Great way to spend an hour one evening. A very talented, passionate and warm family.

昨日行ってきました。
一見、何処に劇場が有るのか分からない。日本風に言うとビルの2階。ベランダに小さな看板が有りますが、入口には看板が有りません。電話を掛けて、階段に続く鉄格子の鍵を開けてもらい、案内して貰う。
観客席には10脚程のプラスチックの椅子。
１日に45分の講演が17時と18時から有るようです。17時の講演の予約は私以外は居なく、18時の講演は予約が有る様でした。座長さん曰わく最低2人以上でないと、講演はできないとの事ですが、1人（850円/人）でも2人分のチケットを買えば始めてもらえるとの事。
始まる前に人形劇の説明。600年の歴史が有り、宮中で行われていたが、植民地時代はパゴダで行われていたが、始まる時間は夜中の11時頃から約8時間程のストーリーの講演が演じられていたとの事。衣装を付けていない人形が出てきて、男性と女性どちらと思いますか？の質問。髪飾りとホウ紅なので女性と答えたら、股間に膨らみが有、答えは男性との事。
いよいよ始まり。人形、ガルーダ、猿、へび（ドラゴン）馬、鬼など。
お供え物を糸を操り人形が持ち上げる。ドラゴンには、一瞬に人形が飛び乗る。閉じられたら傘も糸を操り傘をさす。馬にも人形が一瞬で飛び乗る。
ステップも人形が地面を踏みしめているようでした。
終了後人形の操り形教えてもらった。

'A MUST WATCH'.as traditional puppetry has much been replaced by modren day multiplex yet this internationally renowned team of U Htwe and Daw Oo preserve much of traditional Burmese puppetry.a homely welcome and extremely well explained show! Ce zu ba to the team ranging from a senior puppeteer of 70yrs old..to U Htwe's 12yr old son; for hosting a show exclusively for me! :)
