Safari services are available at nearby hotels. A safari ride maybe around 3 hours in time. Drivers have a very good understanding about the park routes. If you want, a tour guide will be provided for an additional cost. Roads inside the park is not the best but they certainly are enjoyable. Animals can be easily observed here since it seems like the animals are quite adapted to the safari jeeps and human contacts. No loud noises or any other disturbances allowed within the park premises. Polythene is prohibited inside the park.

A brilliant park, far less packed than the nearby wildlife safari parks but offers a great safari opportunity. We could stop and take photos without thinking of the cars behind, and I felt we got closer to the animals. Bundala National Park was beautiful with lots of animals to see and the jeep comfortable. Great bird viewing, several dozen species. Lots of peacocks, including a male dancing ritual. Elephants, Crocodiles, Wild boars, Mongoose, Deer, Monkeys, Rabbits, Tortoise and many more. You need a knowledgeable guide, a pair of binoculars and a camera, then just enjoy a couple of hours seeing the wonders of nature.

Amazing experience. We traveled from Ella. Took a bus from Ella to somewhere in between. From there took another bus to Udawalawe National park. Went inside the park to the main office. They gave us the permit and the tickets. Then we came out and negotiated really hard for a half day. We were 4 people and they charged 16k LKR half day trip. We saw many exotic birds on the way, some peacocks, huge amount of elephants, some crocodiles. They said there were 10 leopards but the sightings were extremely rare so we could not see them. All in all it is huge and nice to visit once. As an Indian I have seen most of there animal offerings a lot in India.

Was on entrance at 5:45am. Gate opened at 6am. We saw many elephants in jungle and on the roads. Some was a group 3-4 elephants (parents and baby). Asked our guide to go close to lake and see elephants on the water. But not lucky. Area around so beautiful: mountains, lakes, jungle. Saw many birds, antelopes, buffalos

Safari in Udawalawe. Hit my expectations about safari like ecology and animal friendly pastime. In the middle of January on the morning safari were more than 200 jeeps! And just 10% of them were full. Mostly there had been just 2 people in 6-seat jeep. Numerous and numerous jeeps. Near each elephant more than 10 jeeps. It's sad.

If you love elephants you'll see plenty. You'll also see lots of peacocks! Deducted one star just because it was quite busy in the park with cars though I can definitely understand why as it is a very lucrative piece of the tourist industry. Would definitely recommend!

The park is nice place with lot of elephants, peacocks and many kind of small birds. We took morning tour 6-9am. We saw all animals mentioned above and also some crocodiles.
But I would definitely reduce the number of cars (jeeps) to entry the park. We saw many ( I would say at least 30%) cars with only one or two tourists. The cars are made mostly for 6-8 persons. It happened several times that the big number of cars were blocking road so the elephants were not able to go where they wanted this is not cool at all especially when females wants to go to water with baby elephants.response / report this review -

3 bed room's. 10 people can stay. No a.c. Quite place. About 18km away from the road. Good place spend a day n night. If you want to stay here a little time please check from wild life center.

Absolutely loved it!!
We had good park and got to see loads of amazing animals including: several groups of elephants, crocodiles, eagles, monkeys, buffalo and lots of beautiful birds.
I would definitely recommend it. There wasn't too many jeeps all at one place do it wasn't too bad.
Highlight of the trip was seeing the elephants bathing at the watering hole.response / report this review -

The park is nice and diverse. I do understand that once you have paid the entrance fee you wanna see animals. Especially elephants. The tour guide was very helpful but I must say I personally would reduce the numbers of cars entering the park at the same time. Nature is sensitive. Keep her untouched.

It was nice experience. We saw many elephants and pickock. We were lucky to see 2 crocodiles in small lake. Due to heavy rain we missed to visit bigger lake which has many crocodiles.

Very beautiful National Park, in Udawalawe area. Can see many elephants and other animals like crocodiles, monkeys, eagles, buffaloes, deer,..etc, but difficult to see leopards. Have to do the safari with safari jeep. Safari jeeps available near the entrance to the Park and also Udawalawe town.

Udawalawe was a great experience. I do think that in every safari (this was my first) your driver/guide is very important. Everyone can drive trough the park and point out elephants. But our driver knew a lot about birds and other small elephants as well. That made it a very good trip!

Wow. This is a must. What a great day. We did the afternoon safari to avoid the mid afternoon heat. The whole experience was amazing. I would recommend in an heart beat. We saw lots of animal including crocodiles and elephants. Several times we had to stop the jeep so that the elephants could pass in front of us. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and went out of his way to find the animals. An experience of a life time. Just wow again

Had the best safari, saw wild elephants, Bulls, monkeys, a kinda bird which I haven't seen ever before an die forgot it's name, with a huge big beak. Vultures. Peacock, crocodiles, pecans, flamingos. Bee hives and snake holes Etc amazing stuff. Take your water bottles and snack. Might feel hot

If you are alone traveler, taxi are realy rare and expensive to come back to colombo. But you can take a bus to colombo not far from the park. Long trip but still better than spending 3000Rs for a taxi

using safari jeeps (cost Rs. 3000 for 3 hours/ 6 -8 people) recommended. Entrance fee (Rs 90/ per local) will come to Rs.850 with all other chargers. We started safari around 10AM. Elephants, peacocks, wild buffaloes, crocodiles, deers, eagles could be seen.

Fantastic views with many different animals including elephants, water buffalos, crocodiles and lots of different birds. Would recommend the morning safari tour as the animals are waking up and headed to drink. Well worth getting up early and spending three hours here.

Real experience of seeing hundreds of peacocks. Elephants Crocodiles Turtles and many more animals live on this National park. Safari riders are giving us a thrilling experience by making us very closer to Giant Elephants.

Its one of the Best places to enjoy some wild life There is a lot of rare animals and they are in the natural state. so if your interested in looking how they spend the time how they hunt what they look like in the real state it's a good place to watch them And also there are places with beautiful views. And village type food is really nice specially the village fish The weather is nice in the morning and evening but day time its a bit warm. The best time to watch wild life inside the park is at about 6.00 am and then in the evening because they normally rest in the day time because of the hot sun. And in the evening they come out again. But the park closes at 6.00 pm for safety and other reasons.

The national park is a bit difficult to review, as the experience highly depends on the Safari company.
In general, the park was very impressive for us. Our first Safari experience, and it was really interesting to see the peaceful land with the animals living there.
The way the park is organized could be much improved. Countless Safari jeeps from all kinds of different companies were driving through the paths, most cars with only two guests. Our tour was organized by the hotel with two drivers (getting to the park and then for the Jeep). Both were really nice, but didn't tell us much more than the names of the animals we saw.
It would be so much more useful if the park would fill up the jeeps and put a professional guide into each car. That would greatly reduce the number of cars and improve the overall experience.
Our driver managed to drive some less common paths, so we mostly avoided the many other jeeps in the park. He also spent enough time with the motor switched off near the animals, so that we could really get a good look and hear the sounds as well. We saw plenty of elephants, peacocks, birds and a few other animals like turtles.
Overall a great experience, which depends mostly on the Safari company but could be organized much better by the park.response / report this review
