Awesome service, last minute booking at 23:30 we checked in at 00:30 with a warm welcome and perfect English.
Room was clean and quiet plus beautiful terasse and hot water properly working, beds were comfortable. One liter water bottle, tea set, TV and wifi.response / report this review -

We had an amazing stay. Since the moment we first arrived we got a very positive attitude from both managers, Nandana and Morris. They truly personificate the warm and lovely hospitality that sri lanka has been famous for.
Our room was also excellent: huge, clean and very confortable, not to speak of the suberb view over the stunning Ella hills. Mornings or afternoons in the balcony are a must after a long day of exploring the surroundings.
Location is also great as the hotels sits on the main road (where restaurants, bars and shops are) but the rooms are distant enough to give you serenity and absolute quietness at night. All in all a great stay: thank you Morris for receiving us so well!response / report this review -

Nice hotel. Located in the city center.
Rooms are big.
WiFi doesn't work in rooms. No elevator in the building. A bottle of water is provided once only for whole stay. No heating system, A/C machines aren't adjusted for heating.
The hotel is overrated. I would give rate "5" if a room price was 20- 25 USD but for 57 USD it has to be included more facilities.response / report this review -

Big rooms and big balcony with nice view over the city. It is a ruff walk upp hill from mainroad and a lot of stairs in the hotel.

We had a large, clean, comfortable room & bathroom. The room had large floor to ceiling windows with a panoramic view that was magnificent! Truly breathtaking! There is also a sitting area in the room & chairs on the balcony.
The driveway to the hotel is a bit steep, but doable & once you reach the hotel, ahhhh serenity! Did I mention the view? Spectacular!
When we arrived, the hotel manager took us to our room & made sure we had what we needed. We slept well & breakfast the next day was excellent: coffee, tea, fruit smoothie, fresh fruit plate, omelet, toast with butter & jam. After breakfast, the manager showed us his book with local & day trips for sightseeing. He was also kind enough to book a driver from Ella to Unawatun for less than we could find in town. Great customer service was provided by the manager and staff.
We highly recommend Hotel Alta Vista & would definitely book here again!response / report this review -

Box like and echoey but does have space. Lacks a soul or any feeling. Staff are very helpful though.

I have a really mixed review and it is mostly due to one guy who works here. It was like pulling teeth to get the person working the desk to acknowledge, let alone accept, the price on Tripadvisor and booking through Agoda. He kept saying that it was the old rate and that they don't use Tripadvisor anymore. He accused me of cursing at him (which I didn't) and told my wife to go ahead and try booking online because it won't work (which it did). Maybe it was because of this poor exchange, but we were inconvenienced to move rooms between night 1 and 2. The first room was nice and quiet, but the second was very noisy from ~5am on since it was so close to the kitchen. Another negative is the very steep hill this hotel is located on--it's a work out to go back to the room for anything. For the pros, the rooms were both nice and clean. Breakfast was included and the western one was fine, but the Sri Lankan breakfast was amazing. It was actually so good that our stay was almost work all the troubles.

I would like to give full points, as Hotel staff are very very friendly, rooms are big and clean. No disturbance what so ever to the room occupants,
due to hard music or any other. Its very much like home atmospherics for the guests. I would recommend one of the best hotels in Ella. Also wanted comment the food, its high quality and testy. My hat off for the hotel staff. Keep it-up your good work, The staff is an asset to the ownership.response / report this review -
