A magnificent water fall but had been changed due to upstream development activities. The full flow of the water fall can only be observed when the sluice gates of the upstream dam are open and while spilling is maintained. A landscape photographer's dream when the flow is complete.

Beautiful site destroyed by man.now only a shadow of original beauty can be seen. Even in with heavy rains the fall does not get much water as it get water only through a relatively small pipe. The efficiency of the project is also doubtful in whether they can ever work to their full capacity, because the tank cannot store more water which leads to flooding in Thalawakele

The view of the fall getting from the road is beautiful. And the small path that takes near to the falls(still not to the bottom) is like a little adventure ;-)

During the monsoon season this waterfall looks great. Recent developments of the upper Kitmake project has reduced the amount of water that come through. It is ome of my favourite waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

One of the famous and attractive waterfall in Sri Lanka.
The falls are located along the Kotmale River, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, as it cascades over three rock outcrops into a large pool, running through a tea estate, from which the falls derive their name from. The waterfalls consist of two falls called "Maha Ella" (Sinhalese "The Greater Fall"), which is 80 metres (260 ft) high and 50 metres (160 ft) wide and "Kuda Ella", (Sinhalese "The Lesser Fall"), which is 50 metres (160 ft) high and located immediately downstream of the main fall.St Clair's falls are the 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.

You will find a spectacular view from the service center near St. Clair's falls. Cafe is clean and tidy. General public are not allowed to use the washrooms and you should purchase products from the cafe to use the same. I bought a bottle of water and got access to the washroom. It was horrible and disgusting experience.

Don't go there using Google map navigation as you can't go near the waterfall.
Make destination as "st. claire viewing gallery". Can see it from main road.

Little niagara in sri lanka. One of the most beautifull water falls in sri lanka if it is on full float.waterfall is halfly killed by the project of upper kothmale.if you need to see this with full float you have to visit there on rainy seasons .
This fall is located on hatton nuwaraeliya main road. There is a platform beside the road to watch the waterfall.

    ***From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia***
St. Clair's Falls (Sinhalese: සාන්ත ක්ලෙයාර් ඇල්ල) is one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka and is commonly known as the "Little Niagara of Sri Lanka". It is one of six waterfalls affected by the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project.

The falls are situated 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the town of Talawakele on the Hatton-Talawakele Highway in Nuwara Eliya District.

The falls are located along the Kotmale River, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, as it cascades over three rock outcrops into a large pool, running through a tea estate, from which the falls derive their name from.[3] The waterfalls consist of two falls called "Maha Ella" (Sinhalese "The Greater Fall"), which is 80 metres (260 ft) high and 50 metres (160 ft) wide and "Kuda Ella", (Sinhalese "The Lesser Fall"), which is 50 metres (160 ft) high and located immediately downstream of the main fall.
