The place is good. But the service is very poor.Bad receptionist. Rooms are nice and clean. Nice pool and beautiful garden. They should improve thier service big time. If not would be a such a waste of the nice place they have.

Hotel sunray should be avoided at all costs. The rooms are not clean and smell of dampness. The restaurant food is sub standard and cold. I had to rid my room of roaches and put up with loud noises at night from the lobby staff. The list goes on When I decided enough was enough and it was time to leave the owner started a fight with me in the lobby over payment for the remaining night. Overall a terrible place to stay. You're better off sleeping on the streets of Kandy than wasting your money here. You have been warned

Horrible stay. Would not recommend to anyone. Very loud at night. Horrible customer service. Cold and poor food in the restaurant. Rooms smelt like mildew. Poorly looked after. Owner is impossible to deal with.

To be honest, there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to the cleanness of the rooms. But that can easily be overlooked because the beds are good, water is hot and almost everything I needed was there. I think they even had a complete English breakfast in the morning, except for the sausages. Staff is super helpfull and the hotel is located just 15 minutes walking from the city centre. I would stay here again.

The hotel charged our credit card 2 days before arrival despite this was not supposed to happen. We were given a room in a sort of basement very humid and smelly for 95 dollars. The staff at the counter unwilling to provide a better accomodation. The photo is the view from the window.

I spent a wonderful weekend (13-14 Aug 2016) at Hotel Sunray. The staff was exceptional. Helpful, courteous, pleasant and very accommodating. The food was excellent. I would highly recommend Hotel Sunray, I myself would not think twice about staying there again.

I won't recommend this place as they just think about the money. We booked rooms for our 24 Chinese guests but what they gave us was "store room" to stay. If they really had problems with the hotel or rooms they should have informed us rather than providing us some bullshit store rooms.We saw they just started to clean immediately after we arrived to the place. We were forced to use toilet outside our rooms which was actually for swimming pools as the rooms didn't had attached bathrooms. They even promised us to provide the vehicle to carry our luggages but nothing was arranged at last we had to carry our luggages by ourselves and some heavy luggages from tuk tuks too. One guest even changed the room as it was so stinking that, even the worker accepted that it was their fault. Please guys be careful !!! There are other plenty of nice and cheap hotels at Kandy.

Owner tried to rip us off by charging both through credit card and claiming the machine was broken and demand payment in cash.
Very dirty room with a malfunctioning sink, cold water shower and nasty smelling sheets. Also very dirty on the floor as it seems not to have been cleaned at all.
Not even cheap to justify the experience.
If something positive, the (what appeared to be the) wife of the owner cooked some great rice and curry.
Also it's not really "lake side" stilling kandy. Lies a couple of hundred meters from the lake.
I recommend that no one books this hotel even if in need. I'd rather sleep on my bag in a shed then another night here.response / report this review
