"Most unpleasant service experienced ( Locals aren't given any recognition like the foreigners are )
This place is known as Ella Grand Peak

Welcoming the guests - First impression just flew away

First of all we weren't welcome with a "welcome to our hotel sir" or a traditional "Ayubowan" or not even with a simple "hello" by Mr.Rukshan who was giving the service non of which we were expecting but was told, "keep quiet there are guests". But aren't we supposed to be guests as well?!
We came down from the train with all the baggage and was just having a chat till we made it to the reception or where ever it was we needed to check-in. But still we did not take that as the first impression so moved on.
There was a miscommunication with the check-in time where they said they could arrange us to check-in at 6:30am though the original time was 11am. But was not quite informed clearly that we won't receive the room though we check-in at 6:30. But still fine we moved on.

One of my friends was in such a hurry to use the washroom as we came and when we asked where the washroom was, Rukshan wasn't quite bothered but said sorry all rooms are occupied. But i said dont you have one outside for the guests or so?! He said no but then gave us some directions to a washroom which happend to be the staff one (wasnt informed so). It was so unpleasant inside with bad odors and dead cockroaches and also snails on the toilet seat. That was the same place he told us where we could use to wash our faces till we get a room.

Breakfast - not recommending dhal and bread for 300lkr. (bad deal)

We were thinking about having breakfast from the hotel before getting there, and was told it was gonna be 300LKR per head. But was stunned when they informed it was just Dhaal curry and Bread you get. When we asked for other options he gave us Bread with butter and jam. Mr.Rukshan also said we have to wait till they finish serving the other guests ( foreigners ) and encouraged us to go to a local shop near by.. Which was better in a million ways.

    The room ( a family room )

So since its a waste waiting for the room we changed somehow and went for a hike and returned directly to the room.

+ Well it was good, we had no problem with the linen or the bed arrangements and it was perfect for us.

    -
When asked for the room Mr.Rukshan showed us a room which had it's doors wide opened. Thanks to them all the mosquitoes made it in. Didn't mind that and moved on.. The toilet seat was covered with ants and we didn't we bother to ask someone to come so just cleaned it ourselves because we were already pissed off with the service and the attitude..

We were having a chat in the dining area while playing a hand of poker when Rukshan wanted us to know that he was gonna turn off the lights so we better go to the bed room. Never have we experienced a staff member informing the guests to leave the public area of a hotel. So angry we didnt want to make a scene we calmed ourselves and moved to the room. While we were still taking stuff from the dining area to the room he purposely turned off the lightsand had to use our phones.

Such a shame to see that locals aren't treated the same way foreigners are treated.
Only positive interaction was with the owner Mr. Sonny, who talked to guests very courteously before all these incidents. And also apologized afterwards for the bad service when we informed him..
Would not recommend to a local traveler under this sort of service though.

Worst experience ever !!! Felt like i was dark skin in america in the late 50’s .As a local felt ashamed how poorly the locals were treated when compared how they treated the foreigners. The room we received was upto standard but the bathroom was a disaster .Ants all over the toilet making it very disgusting plus the washroom provided to us while our room was getting ready had dead cockroach floating in a water bucket and snail stuck to the seat of the toilet seat utter disgusting it was.And it was a first to see a Room is provided even without a soap bar .The staff(Rukshan the racist in charge ) treated as if we havnt paid for the stay .We were always told from the start to keep quite as it will disturb the other guests and we were told to leave the dinning area by 11 30 as it was protocol to off the lights at that time.It was a first time for me the hotel decides what time i need to go to my room .utterly dissatisfied with the service and i urger any local not to go and only go if you want to get the experience of a blackman had in the late 50’s in USA then you should 👌🏾.I could continue on and on how differently we were treated compared to how they treated the foreigners but i think this sums up what im trying to say.

Nice place to stay at, comfy beds and great staff. We were given a map at the check in and we were told some amazing itineraries that we followed and enjoyed. Also, after check out they didn't have any problems keeping our backpacks while we were exploring the area a bit further.

Quaint little guesthouse, no amazing views, but centrally located. The amenities were nice enough. Sri Lankan breakfast was tasty.
