As of 6th December 2021, the one day service is now only available for those who are traveling abroad. You need to get the medical first and then an approval from the deputy commissioner for this one day service.

Make sure you have the originals and copies of passport, visa and plane ticket before going in to make things faster. Also bring a pen to write letters..

PS: you don't need any appointments for this foreign travel one day service.

Should further improve customer service. Most of the counters remain unmanned. In some, the counter staff are seated with notices placed " Counter Closed ". In are not bothered to look at the counter and making phone calls.

The person served me was very rude in serving. He was getting me to do things in an ordering tone. I hated the way. God Almighty bless him !

Most horrible service ever. Had to wait for hours to get one signature even after an appointment. The person whose signature is required reported to work very late and on top of that he had a nice chat with his work buddies for sometime and then took a nice long breakfast break without signing anyones documents while the long queue had to wait for hours until he finishes all his work. It is a shame to see such people & government offices.

Some people working here are nice. But the efficiency is super low. I had to go there twice to get my license processed because the first time apparently had not worked. They do not answer calls either (almost always busy or off). It’s been more than 10 months since I passed my trial and I still have not received the license. They said they would post it within a month but it’s been more than a month since the processed date and I still have not received it. They should know the pandemic affects the postal services as well and should give an option to come there and collect it. Some post offices are closed now and I don’t believe I will receive the license anytime soon. You can’t go reason with any government workers either because they have a obnoxious sense of self entitlement.

Today my experience was too good. Firstly I did my registration in 22th July & my date was got on 5th August. When I go to RMV and I got my trail date withing one hour. It was a actual improvement of a government departments. When my 1st experience with RMV too much bad. I've in there on 7 am and I got my trail date around 3 pm. "but the main problem is date not givin within a week"

You cannot get a booking for the written test unless it is done through phone first. It is already overbooked. A proper notice of this would have been highly appreciated, instead we need to go ask that from the front desk.

Staff is really good but what's the point of an appointment. I had to wait for 1 month to get my appointment date and once I went to RMV I couldn't even enter on time. There was a long que which makes the appointment system useless. Why is it so hard for people to renew a driving license. Please incorporate an easy way for people to at least renew driving licenses. No safety regulations people don't even maintain 1 meter gap. Only good thing is that staff is much better compared to other govt places.

Went there to register for the written exam for obtaining DL. I have already booked an appointment for the date & time, but to finish my work, I had to spent there for about two hours(Which is considerably good before previous times but this need to be improved.) Stand in the queue about 30 minutes to obtain a token. Then waiting another 45 minutes for registratin session. And another 45 minutes for payment part & obtaining examination date. I think DMT has to be moved for better online method with more online functions rather than this traditional "say your name & call method".

Make sure you reserve an appointment over the phone before going, And take enough money.

No COVID precautions followed and too crowded so take your hand sanitizers with you.

Though they offer appointment reservation, it doesn't mean much when you get there (a long queue in the sun awaits).
Car Park is run by a Mafia, no receipts, shouting at people temporarily parked on the street with filth. When requested a receipt they replied that this is how the RMV has instructed and asked to report to RMV top brass.

Got in today (2019/05/17) about 12.25pm and was out by 1.10pm (one day service). Collected my new license around 2.45pm.

Really simple you can do it by yourself, don't get any third-parties involved. Good luck! Charged Rs 2,200 for the renewal.

I went to renew my driving licence on May 2019.
Renewing process is like this.
First you have to get the Medical fitness certificate from one of the National transport Medical institute
After that you need originals of your NIC and Driving License.
Those are the only three requirements.
Go to "H" premises.
Take a token for either one day or normal service.
Wait for their call for your number.
Go inside and they will collect your NIC and then they will call your name. Go to that counter and give the documents. They will take finger prints of both thumbs, sign on electronic pad, and they will take a photograph. They they will give you a application which has things printed. So if your renewing just keep your signature and put the date and go to the counter that they ask (Remember to take a pen with you)
At that counter they will scan you documents and will ask to go to paying counter. There you can pay money and collect your temporary license. Put a signature and use that and License arrive to you via post.
If your license has been expired more than 90 days they will fine you of Rs. 250
If you are renewing License from your district offices some might ask for photograph. But here they will do all of those for you.
Due to these days security issues they don't allow to carry any bag with you. So better keep them at some safe area before you enter.

Poor service at the end. Initial steps were comparatively good to final step. At the end for the same day service, you have to wait hours till your name is said out loud. No one knows how long it takes. If you miss your name you will never know. Should have a screen with pending names and current names displayed. Very rude people as normal. There are multiple buildings with same letter!! There are two buildings with letter “B”

If not considering the crowd they have to served, deserve only one star.

For the light weight license renewal with the medical will take at least 4 hrs.

If you are near to this place or to the medical centre at Nugegoda, I recommend to take the medical first day and submit in another day, to avoid the lengthy 2 separate queues.

Medical is valid for 6 month and license's expire date should be within 1 month. Fine is Rs.250/= if you delayed the renewal by one day.

The people who have the white color license, old 10 years, should go to the Nugegoda centre.

Keep Rs.800/= in change with you for the medical. And a having a pen also good, but not a must.

If you can go there around 6.30 am, you wil be among the first 50-80 in the queue.

Medical tests starts at 7.00 am. Takes 25 people at a time and will take at least 1.30 hrs. For me by being no.49 took 2.45 hrs.

If you have high sugar or you haven't test your eyes for long period of time, check those first and come. If you older than 40 and fat, they will test your blood pressure and your blood pressure should be normal. They will turned you back, may not in a polite manner.

Then part 2 begins. I was there at 9.
55 am and no was 561. That is for the normal process. For the one day service, no was around 160.

Normal process, they take 30 people in for every 30 min or so which is not bad. Process will take 40 min or so.

They will guide you through the counters like go to counter 18-28 and feel free to pick a counter with shortest queue.

So whole process took 4.30 hrs by getting there at 6.30am.

The people who speak Tamil only, better to ask help at the beginning to get to the right place.

Formal dress helps you to treated better.

The application for the temporary Sri Lanka driving license was very easy. It took me 20 minutes to get my license and costs LKR 2000. My license saved me several times payment at police controls.

The worst department in the World, most probably in the universe. There is no professionalism in the employees in this department. It waste valuable time of the people. The officers represent a typical government servants' behavior in 80th decade. These people think we cannot live without them. So google please let us give less than one star to them.

I’ve had the worst experience here. The security staff and all the other personnel is nothing but useless, selfish and mean. You can’t ask them a question and they’ll just give you this annoyed look and ask you to go and ask from somewhere else. Is this how you treat us citizens? This place has been so far the worst government entity I’ve visited. Simply lazy uneducated personnel.
For anybody about to sit the driving exam, always wear a long pair of trousers, as otherwise they don’t accept you in.
Shame on each and everyone working there.

Well this is the only place in your district if you want to get your driving licence. First you must take your birth certificate and your national identity with you to get the medical once you passed the medical test you can apply to the driving licence then their will be a written test in a given date which you have to get at least 30 correct from 40 questions. Then you can get a date for your driving trials but they'll give it only after three months. This place is worst when it comes to efficient work they do what they want when they want. Just a waste of time. To get the whole thing done it'll at least take 3 days of your schedule so be prepared.

Due respect to the citizens are not given. Priority is given to non citizens/ foreigners. Officers are serving for the selected/ known people who are coming without being in the queue and majority of them are on the mobile phone. Security officers act beyond their limits and performing the security cum receptionist job in a rude manner. No help desk. Recommend to reach them through an internal contact. Otherwise you valuable time will be wasted. Dislike the way they serve us. Highly disappointed.

I would have given "0" Stars if it was a private place. But because of Government I'm giving away "3". Long queues and long waits makes people irritated. But simply you can't complain because it's where everyone come to get there Licenses. I suggest people to go here as early as possible. Being there at 7am is an ideal way to avoid long waits. Terrible service. It’s just horrible. Very long queue and not welcoming staff. It’s one of the worst government department. Very much unprofessional people here, including at the medical screening, even the doctors there are unprofessional.
There is a standard, fast and very fast service.
The first visit, I chosen the standard option and I had to return that day because of missing certified documents, the next day also, the officer wanted further documents. I went the third day and decided to opt in for the very fast (vigorous) option, in other words, this option mean you pay extra in the officers pocket and got my license in 4 hours.

There is a official process and a faster process :-). I went on official and was there for a full day just to renew.

The staff always keep shuffling in fast track applications. It makes me scared how people with bad eyesight pass the medical and driving tests. They issue trial driving dates on receipt of phone calls by licence training companies only.

Its a shame on government servants that do good service.

If some one need to write a thesis on transparent corruption, look no further.

I would have given zero stars if the Google rating allows it.

What a crappy place I have ever visit. I am writing this comment while I waiting in a long queue. If you want to get your job done then you have to pay some extra money for them. Other wise waiting on a long queue and they treat you bad. People who follows normal procedure should waiting by looking this stage drama and your turns comes you may be you have to beg from them. They have a good, efficient award winning system in South Asia that manage driving licenses issuing smart process. But it contain so many loop holes. That creates some illegal business models inside the department employees motivate to cheat others. If someone who maintain the automated system should remove those loopholes other than show off to the media they have a best system. Other wise there's no point to bring fancy system to government departments.i am so disappointed about why government employers and how they treat to public poor people who come across different part county to get job done. Believe me still 25 percent off my queue is over.😓😒
