The sunrise was stunning! In April it is the festival season, so it is full of people. If you wish to see the sunrise, don't listen to the advice and go at 2, go earlier. We went at midnight and arrived there at 4, so I would recommend not to leave after 1! It was one and a half hour climb before we hit the queue and then two and a half slowly moving up to the top.
The climb is not only stairs, there is a lot of flat in between in the beginning, so your legs don't suffer that much, but it is still quite demanding.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to bring warm socks as you have to take off your shoes at the top and the floor is COLD! For the top a hoodie and maybe a windjacket is enough. We waited at the top for more than two hours and didn't feel cold wearing that.
PRO TIP FOR THE SUNRISE: When you arrive to the last set of stairs a few meters behind temple entrance, facing the temple the sunrise is at your 4 o'clock (behind to the right). The best spot to see the sunrise is at the "balcony" on the left, about 10 meters below the temple entrance.

Not only does the path train your muscles, but also exercise your mind. Really amazing. It is definitely a must in Sri Lanka. Keep safe and never go back till reach the peak :)

Very disappointed hike. Don’t choose week end and poya days. You will have terrible and annoying experience.
As everyone tells beautiful sun rise, natural place. No doubt on that.
Meantime it’s not like a sacred place. Using alcohol, smoking and using bad words and teasing while hike.
Some people chanting in a funny way. There are so many shops they sell Red Bull and cigarettes. Adam’s peak treated as tourist / business place not holy/ sacred place.
Don’t use the name of Buddha and spoil the respect of this place.
No clean, very dirty and disgusting wash rooms. Everywhere garbage and all.
Very crowded when I was visited. No one organized the crowed. No security people or police there to clear the crowed. Some public did volunteer service. Salute for them.
And also by force doing some religious things by some monks and helpers. They were behaved like thugs.
By the way place is awesome but people destroying the reputation.response / report this review -

This is a sacred place for Buddhists as well as a great place for everyone to visit. Gives a beautiful view at the peak of the mountain, both day and night. 'Ira sewaya', the rising of the Sun at dawn is very popular among people which gives a beautiful view and a great experience. Please don't pollute the environment if you're visiting there and continent behaviour is important as it's a sacred place.

One of the best hikes ever and a well known place to experience an amazing view of the sun rise. So it’s better to start the hike in the afternoon so that can reach the summit before morning. If you are careful enough, can see different kinds of birds as well. Almost all the religions in Sri Lanka consider this place as a sacred place.
If you are visiting, please be aware that the rest rooms are limited throughout the trail and their condition could be below satisfactory. Make sure you do not litter. This world heritage site should be saved for the future generations.response / report this review -
