We paid for a regular room, but they upgraded us to a better one! Pool was lovely, and service was perfect.

Hotel uses fogging pesticides for mosquitoes, is across the street from a noisy neighborhood, and the restaurant serves only expensive western food to guests who are too afraid to eat outside of the hotel.

Very nice hotel, good standard, perfect location; staff very friendly and helpful, rooms of correct size, nicely furnished . Great swimming pool, very useful after a day walking across the city. Gym a bit too small/ not equipped enough. Restaurant / food at the swimming pool a bit expensive compared to same kinds of hotels. Nice breakfast.

    Sleepy Hollow

We stayed here our last night in Laos at the end of a beautiful journey traveling through northern Thailand and down the Mekong River. A pity to have ended on such a sour note. Having just left the charm and style of Luang Prabang, it was a bit jarring to walk into the convalescent staleness of the Settha Palace.

While many hotels in Asia with colonial heritage (like the Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi or the Nadesar Palace in Varanasi) have maintained that aesthetic with an air of elegance, the Settha Palace's interior design is quagmired in an 80's aesthetic that does it's colonial bones no justice. Asylum-esque hallways lead to soulless rooms with quasi-deco bathrooms. The lobby has cluttered curio cabinets leading into the bar and dining areas with budget hotel furniture and art. Plus, there is no excuse for any hotel in southeast Asia to favor silk flowers over fresh ones.

The hotel manager, however, was delightful and charming. She was a breath of fresh air in this otherwise disappointing stay.

Probably the pick of the hotels in Vientiane and definitely one of the more gorgeous historic/colonial buildings in the city. Good pool to lounge by on those hot Laotian days as well.

One of the best boutique hotel in Lao. Historic building converted into stylish boutique hotel. Beautiful room and dining area. This is not 5 stars hotel alike but I've rated it 5 stars for being the best quality boutique hotel in Lao particularly.
